A Mississippi woman’s Facebook post celebrating what appeared to be a baby shower for a 12-year-old relative has gone viral after the images were reposted on X, where millions of viewers reacted with shock, anger, concern, and debate over teenage pregnancy in the United States.
The April 27 post, shared by Greenwood resident Sheila Marble, showed her posing beside the young girl and a 13-year-old boy, with baby shower decorations visible in the background.
“They made me a Great Glamom,” Marble wrote.
Two days later, on April 29, the images were reposted on X.
By then, the post had reached more than 7.7 million views, turning a private family celebration into a national argument over what should or should not be publicly celebrated. A family went viral after celebrating a 12-year-old’s baby shower
n the original post, Marble is seen standing with the visibly pregnant girl, who appears to be at a baby shower decorated with blue and pink banners, balloons, and table displays.
Other photos show the girl standing beside a boy identified online as 13 years old, though there is no public confirmation from the family regarding his relationship to the pregnancy beyond the assumptions made by commenters.
On Marble’s page, the response appeared mostly positive, with people reacting to the family moment and leaving supportive comments.
That changed once the photos left Facebook.

Somehow I knew it was them again.
I saw that.
And I took a look at the law regarding consent, statutory rape in MS.
And given the wiggle room in that law, I really wonder if the 13 YO is really the father of that baby.
So, if a female is 14 and the boy is 13, is that ‘statutory rape’?
In this case we know the purported age of the female. Given that, whether it’s statutory rape depends on the age of the male.

There are MANY 24-29 year old grandmothers in the ghetto. Many people do NOT want to talk about it.
Absolutely. It’s not statutory rape. It’s only unfortunate they weren’t a bit more mature in this day and time. Apparently the family is supportive and that is good for their child. Nobody knows how it will all turn out in the end. Truly glad they weren’t forced by their parents to kill the child. Thank God for that.

I’m truly sick to my stomach hearing about this.
My problem is if a child is incapable of legally consenting to sex with someone older, how in Hades is she any more capable of legal consent if it’s with someone closer in age?!

I was Grade 7 when I was twelve years old.
Read it. I provided the link for good reason. The words “male” and “female” do not appear in the relevant MS State law.
As to your first example, a 15 year old girl who has intercourse with a 13 year old boy may well commit statutory rape, and should face the appropriate penalty. See (1)(b)(ii), specifying a 24 month age difference when the child is under 14.
As to your second point, if the boy is less than 24 months older than the 12 year old girl, then he did NOT commit statutory rape. If 24 months (or more) older, then he did commit statutory rape.
So “yes”, age matters.
Sex of the older person does NOT matter.
Read the law. It’s clearly written.
It's unfortunate that they weren't taught to KEEP THEIR PANTS ON. Twelve and thirteen is way too young to be playing that kind of game.

There were far fewer cases like this in the Black community before the ulterior policies of the mid to late 1960s took hold.
The law may or may not be an ass ... but the law is written very clearly.
