Years ago, my dad wrote a letter to his state legislator about the abuse he saw at the grocery store with the food stamps program. He received a letter back explaining how he could get food stamps. Unbelievable.
The federal government doesn’t have the constitutional authority to be in the charity, welfare or food stamp business. Now is as good a time as any to get it to stop.
It used to be , then the Junk Food industry started donating to pols campaigns............

I was driving home from some kind of meeting, so I stopped at the next store I came to. Not the best neighborhood. Saw a woman in there that so fat that she couldn’t walk, had one of those sit-down carts. Her child kept taking things off the shelves and showing them to her. “No, not that. EBT doesn’t pay for it. Her cart was filled with absolute krep already, nothing I’d ever buy.
STOP SNACKING .....go for a walk.
I’d be THRILLED to be in her ungrateful shoes!

I’ve looked at their bulging carts of Ebt food.
Steaks, lobsters, junk food galore, name brand soft drinks.
Full size grocery carts stuffed to overflowing.

I like the sign saying “Scan QR code for details”. Yet, these are people who supposedly can’t afford to buy food, but they have a phone that costs $700-$1200, AND requires a monthly service plan. Make it make sense.
My sister taught math to inner city kids in Baltimore. The kids would tell her “When momma gets her paycheck, I’ma gonna get me new [iPhone][kicks][extensions]”
“Paycheck” was the government assistance check.
I could not care less what foods people getting food stamps spend them on. They get a certain budget - if they choose to spend it on M&Ms and Mountain Dew, so be it. What is it about human nature that makes so many of us look for ways to control the lives of others so completely? The love of nanny-statism is obviously not just a disease of the Left.
Those of us who worked for a living rarely went for the extravagant items, wanting to keep within our budgets and finding ways to save money where we could.
