PINEVILLE, La. - Police are investigating a Louisiana restaurant after officers discovered a deer believed to be roadkill stored in a freezer alongside food items intended for customers, authorities said.
Dig deeper:
The Pineville Police Department said the investigation began after officers learned of a viral social media post showing individuals skinning an animal behind a local restaurant.
On April 21, officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Cottingham Expressway after receiving a report that a restaurant employee had been seen skinning a dead animal.
When they arrived, officers found evidence suggesting the animal was a deer, which was believed to have been collected after being found dead along the roadside.
During the investigation, officers discovered the deer carcass stored in a freezer alongside other food items reportedly intended for customers at the restaurant.
What they're saying:
According to KALB, the incident happened at China Queen and the restaurant posted this note to its door.
"We apologize for the recent incident. The item involved was never intended to be served to customers, but it was improperly stored. It has been fully cleaned and sanitized. We are cooperating with health authorities and have corrected our procedures to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for your understanding."

“...a report that an employee was seen skinning dead animal!!..”
“What? Americans want their animals skinned live now?”
Sizzling Happy Possum.
The ingredients necessary for mimicking the Chinese take-out tastes are soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, and oyster sauce. (If allergic to shellfish, they make a mushroom based “oyster” sauce.) There are other ingredients, but those four are essential. A great internet site for recipes creating Chinese take-out dishes is “The Woks of Life”. It’s put together by a family who ran a Chinese restaurant.
In our state if a deer is killed on the road, the deputy sheriff either takes it home for his own use or there is a list of people he can call. No big deal.
Ginger, garlic and scallions also.
That is a good one....because it is so true. I have traveled much in China and when I tell people about some of the things I ate there they just shake their head in amazement. Bee pupa anyone? As they say in Guangdong Province the Chinese in that part of the country will eat anything on four legs except the table....
Ever eat a bat? Many parts are edible…Euell Gibbons.
I had a former employee once tell me he left Michigan just in time. The owner of the Chinese restaurant he dined at often was arrested for cat-rustling.
The price of beef is very high and getting higher.Really wonder what is in those burgers, sausages and chili.
Usually one expects to find this sort of thing at a Moslem halal shop.
Yep. Corn starch, chicken bullion powder, (I like Lee Kum brand), Chinese wine, 5 spice powder, msg if you tolerate it. I have hoisin sauce, but I almost never use it.
Maybe this is why I can never make my stir fry taste like the restaurant’s…
But you’ve never featured that stuff on the cooking threads.
;)
30-some years ago my company held an outdoor luncheon for the employees. It was catered by Roadkill Barbeque.
I once saw the chef at a local Chinese buffet in full chef regalia out in back of the building snaking out the sewer line.
Hahahahahahaha!
