Roadkill found in freezer at Chinese restaurant, police say

PINEVILLE, La. - Police are investigating a Louisiana restaurant after officers discovered a deer believed to be roadkill stored in a freezer alongside food items intended for customers, authorities said.

Dig deeper:

The Pineville Police Department said the investigation began after officers learned of a viral social media post showing individuals skinning an animal behind a local restaurant.

On April 21, officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Cottingham Expressway after receiving a report that a restaurant employee had been seen skinning a dead animal.

When they arrived, officers found evidence suggesting the animal was a deer, which was believed to have been collected after being found dead along the roadside.

During the investigation, officers discovered the deer carcass stored in a freezer alongside other food items reportedly intended for customers at the restaurant.

What they're saying:

According to KALB, the incident happened at China Queen and the restaurant posted this note to its door.

"We apologize for the recent incident. The item involved was never intended to be served to customers, but it was improperly stored. It has been fully cleaned and sanitized. We are cooperating with health authorities and have corrected our procedures to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for your understanding."

I have been to a lot of Chinese restaurants, but although I have seen many exotic items on menus, I have never seen venison.

To be fair, if you watch China travel and foodie videos — the cuisine is adventurous — but in the same way that frog’s legs and duck pate are part of French cuisine...

The foods vary by province and are NOT like what you get at Americanized takeout places.

I would stick to the Asian sweet potatoes roasted on the street corners by elderly men and women...and rice. LoL

I once walked behind a chinese restaurant and this ancient 100 year old chinaman, was plucking some kind of dead bird in the alley. He had a cigarette dangling from his mouth with an ash about 2 inches long. I don't eat chinese food.

Now Vietnamese food is a different story (in the USA). Vietnamese restaurants seem to spotless and on the up and up.

Fortune cookie say, “that wasn’t chicken”

Some years ago, there was a Chinese fast food joint across the street from the University of Southern California. They featured a dish labeled "beef," but it didn't look like normal beef--it was probably chitlins, or something like that. However, their food tasted a lot better than that served at Panda Express.

Yes, the food can be tasty. But everything is a game to the chinaman, to see how much they can get away with. I can't imagine how difficult it is to screen mission critical parts for chinese fakes.

I've seen youtube videos of someone taking a piece of chinese rebar and snapping it in half with their bare hands.

One reason why many cities display a restaurant ranking in the Window. In one instance it came about when a Chinese restaurant was found painting in the kitchen during business hours! I refuse to eat Chinese food.

“Precious China” used to refer to the finest dishwater and intricate pottery. Among the most prized possession of European aristocrats...I thing something of that spirit got lost in the communist turmoil.

Oh, The Humanity! Look in MY freezers. Raccoon and Coyote hides, a BELOVED cat needing to be buried once the land thaws, a bear skull...

Get over yourselves.
