The U.S. blockade of Iranian ports will continue, and the ceasefire with Iran will be extended, President Donald Trump said Tuesday, citing "serious fractures” within the Iranian regime.

“Based on the fact that the government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so, and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our attack on the country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” Trump said in a post shared on Truth Social.

“I have therefore directed our military to continue the blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted and discussions are concluded, one way or the other,” he added.

Regime change is the Iranians’ problem.

As long as Iran can’t harm us or our interests, it’s free to go to heck in a handbasket of its own making.

Hopefully it won’t.

But that hope will be lost if we turn the country into rubble because doing that is easier than exhibiting some common sense and patience.

Yes, the “unreasonable demands” the US had for starting the talks was that the negotiators be able to show that they actually have the ability to make any agreement “stick”.

Nobody can do that. There are 3 factions: mullahs (the head guy is a cardboard cutout; one of the Sunni clerics was talking sense in a headline I saw today); official gov’t (that’s who is negotiating but the IRGC leaders have called them idiots and traitors), and the IRGC (they have all the weapons and all the power. They will never surrender.)

The IRGC is starting to fall into a civil war, between the hardliners and the so-called moderates. He’s just letting them have each other.

Well done! You were the first one on this thread - and one of the few - who understood what is going on.

And while the internal conflict is brewiing, the ongoing blockade is squeezing Iran's economy.

I think you may be correct. So much going on that we cant see from here, that POTUS can see. He may be just waiting for it to resolve on its own. And no American warrior is looking to fight if it can be avoided. So let it play out.

He noted that their government is fractured. What needs to happen is that Artesh (regular army, and the only ones besides IRGC that is armed) needs to see that the IRGC is going to take down the whole country before they will ever let themselves be taken out of power. They need to turn on the IRGC in defense of their homeland and its people. That’s the only way this ends well for the Iranian people, and the only way we’ll ever get the IRGC to give up. When they’re dead.

Blech. Stop talking to me.

That would be easy if you would simply stop posting to me.

Let's see if you can stop.

Blockade...that’s the meaningful piece of the puzzle. We’ll just sit by and watch your economy crater while you feel the trap closing. The rest of Iran will get very tired of starving.

Well, at least when the Bridges and Power Stations Night arrives, DJT will look like he went the extra mile to give the IRGC dead enders one last chance. Who controls the straights today? Whoever can halt shipping by force at will and board then seize them. Anything less is nostalgia for the IRGC, not control.

With every hour they get closer to having no oil wells. Trump can wait forever; they can’t.

That isea of dealing with the "moderates" in Iran was the same load of crap Reagan fell for in Iran/Contra. To the extent any such moderates exist, they are completely subordinate to the hardliners who control the military. The idea that the moderates are somehow going to outmaneuver. The people who have the guns is a fantasy.

OK so who will be the patient one when they run out of money and food? It’s a lot different being impatient from your comfortable home because you want this conflict over and you are frustrated than being patient when you have no way to receive funds from the customers that drove your economy.

Giving the enemy time to consolidate and reorganize (which we are doing also), we watch where our next targets will be. Iran is geographically large, with lots of places to hide weapons. We destroyed the obvious ones and need to others to pop up their heads.

Additionally, as has been said, there doesn’t appear to be an organized Iranian government with which to work. Letting them duke it out either brings us new targets, or an opportunity to end this.

If the US truly wishes to conquer and control Iran, it will only be with soldiers on the ground. I don’t think anybody wants that.

Yes… allegedly 13 days until the oil pumps stop and water seeping through the well wells begin (or something roughly along those lines).

From a future history perspective then it will be 13 days of waiting until Iran falls on its own economic sword, versus dozens of USA military lives lost in combat or taken prisoner. Once Iran cannot pay its soldiers, they will be hard put to stay at their combat posts and follow battle orders. The mullah lose their credibility and it seems possible that a conquering force has a chance of being welcomed rather than resisted.

No, the enemies can’t afford to be patient. Every minute that passes their oil storage is reaching its limit. And when that happens they have to shut off those oil wells and they will be ruined by water flooding into the system.

We literally have them in a chokehold. We can last forever this way. But every minute they watch their lifeblood drain.

Tsk, tsk... PDJT does not intend to deal with the “moderates”, but allow the various factions to fight each other.

"Trump extends Iran ceasefire, orders continued US blockade, says regime 'seriously fractured'"

Are they too busy arguing over the shape of the negotiating table?

That’s why I said so-called moderates. Trump is aware.

The difference between a fundamentalist and a moderate is that the fundamentalist will kill you himself and the moderate will help.
