Trump expects U.S. to make ‘great deal’ with Iran
CNBC ^ | April 21, 2026 | Dan Mangan

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he believes the United States is “going to end up with a great deal” with Iran to end the weeks-long war.

“I think they have no choice,” Trump said during an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” when asked what he expected to come out of a second round of peace negotiations with Iran.

“We’ve taken out their Navy, we’ve taken out their Air Force, we’ve taken out their leaders,” the president said.

“We’ve taken out their leaders, frankly, which does complicate things in one way, but these leaders are much more rational,” Trump said. “It is regime change, no matter what you want to call it, which is not something I said I was going to do, but I’ve done it indirectly.”

Who are we dealing with over there?

I heard the quote that the one that gets to the office first that day is the one we end up dealing with. If another guy gets there first the next day, we start from scratch again.

Why not a deal with UAE, Kuwait or Saudi Arabia? Put a $6billion bounty on Iran’s nuclear dust and turn their ground forces loose to go get it. We will provide the air cover.

I don’t think anyone knows who is running Iran right now.

Some of the still alive leaders of the military.

“That will only be done with ‘Boots on the Ground’.”

Perhaps Krugerrands could be useful.

I have suggesting killing off IRGC people and then airdropping money on nearby army bases.

I have suggesting destroying the fuel depots of the IRGC (after destroying the refineries), who might want to get fuel from the army, which might not like to give it up.

“cylinders of enriched uranium UF6 gas”

Possibly they could be made into real hot items, in more ways than one.

“If you create a situation where Iran has nothing to gain, there is no chance of any sort of win for them, where do you think negotiations will lead?”

“offering them...frozen and seized assets”

$15 million per kilogram of U-235 in highly enriched uranium per year turned over (440kg of 60% - $3.96 billion/year)

per top model centrifuge turned over within 30 days
$10 million first 500
$5 million all others

per previous top model
one-fifth the amounts

$50 million/quarter if no attacks from Lebanon
$20 million/quarter if no attacks from Gaza
$100 million/quarter if Israel is not attacked

They got plenty of money, and eyes to see their skin.

Interesting. I did not know that.

Reports I have seen and my reference mention I think 440 kilos of the refined product in question. I believe it is to the 60 % enrichment. I assumed it was a solid.

Even their combined ground forces are far too small -- they would get ripped to shreds by the Iranians. Iran has almost twice their total population, far larger ground forces, and the terrain is extremely favorable to defenders.

Iran will say ridiculous things and ruffle their feathers, a lot. This is not for our consumption, but to maintain appearances for their own.

Saying "ridiculous things" appease the radical elements in their own countries also builds support/expectation for those radical elements to kill Americans. It's not like they have just paid lip service to radical ideals and anti-west hatred but then left the rest of the world alone. They actually follow through.

If you create a situation where Iran has nothing to gain, there is no chance of any sort of win for them, where do you think negotiations will lead?

The one thing they gain is the cessation of attacks. In terms of "positive" incentives, we apparently have offered to release funds of theirs that have been frozen, but they refuse to give us the three things we rightfully demand 1) no nuke program, 2) stop funding terrorism, 3) free passage through the Straits of Hormuz.

I suspect you are overestimating Iran’s military.

The suggestion was only to hold a small area for a short time to sieze uranium, not take the whole country. It isn’t as if the Iranians have effective air defenses.

I think you are underestimating it, and very likely overestimating the militaries of those Gulf States. I've seen those guys in action, and actually trained some of them back in the day. And I'll just say they don't quite have our military ethos.

The suggestion was only to hold a small area for a short time to sieze uranium, not take the whole country. It isn’t as if the Iranians have effective air defenses.

The closest of those sites is about 300 miles inside Iran, and all could be reinforced by the Iranians quickly. The Gulf States couldn't possibly fly in enough troops quickly enough to hold those places for long enough to do what is needed to be done if the Iranians wanted to stop them. It would be a disaster.

You're really overestimating the ground capabilities of the Gulf States.

You may be correct. Much depends on the ability of the Iranian command and control. It appears to be fractured.

We will see what happens.

It also took millions of Soviet soldiers to help crush the Nazi’s.

The U.S. has only about 1.5 million active personnel across all the branches. The IRGC is at least 200,000 strong and they’re all willing to die for their demonic Allah.
Boots on the ground? We might have to reinstate the draft and ship another million boys from the Midwest over to that hellhole.
