Trump expects U.S. to make ‘great deal’ with Iran
CNBC ^ | April 21, 2026 | Dan Mangan

Posted on 04/21/2026 6:00:23 AM PDT by Miami Rebel

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he believes the United States is “going to end up with a great deal” with Iran to end the weeks-long war.

“I think they have no choice,” Trump said during an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” when asked what he expected to come out of a second round of peace negotiations with Iran.

“We’ve taken out their Navy, we’ve taken out their Air Force, we’ve taken out their leaders,” the president said.

“We’ve taken out their leaders, frankly, which does complicate things in one way, but these leaders are much more rational,” Trump said. “It is regime change, no matter what you want to call it, which is not something I said I was going to do, but I’ve done it indirectly.”

The IRGC must be forever broken. That will only be done with “Boots on the Ground”. The 8th Air force bombed Germany into a ruin but they fought on—it took grunts to finish them off, American, Brits and Soviets. They could have fought on for ages if we waged just an air war (or we could have nuked em into surrender). But, we do not have the guts to use a nuke or two on Iran—Nukes have been rendered unusable in today’s world. The IRGC has enough popular support to keep the war going for a year—Then the Dimmycrats win the House—Trump and Vance are deposed by impeachment-—Dimmycrat Speaker becomes President to rip away all things Trump and put him in jail for life as a war criminal (or hang him in mock Nuremberg trials). Fight on! Iran—you have nothing to lose! Viet Cong beat a bound Uncle Sam-—you can win, and win big.The Dimmycrats will give you lots of money and let you have nukes—that you will use.

One does not make deals with a death cult government with a 50 year track record of death in its own actions and that of its state sponsored proxies. Do not delay. Make haste.

> I’m a bit concerned that Trump is not being realistic about who we are dealing with over there.<

There are really 3 factors to deal with.
1- the Iranians
2- Congressional democrats and RINOS using the War Powers Act
3- the clock

The Iranians don’t need a navy, Air Force, or troops. They just need to stall until the 60 days are reached and congress will hand them a victory with a mandatory withdraw of forces.

This is the Iranians only weapon left.

The people now running Iran are the hardest of the hardliners.

The whole Iran-Contra thing was based on Reagan believing that there were "moderates" in the Iranian regime.

We should just accept/internalize that they are better negotiators than we are, and the longer negotiations last, the bigger their advantage. Our advantage is in acting, not talking, and we have to use that.

ESPECIALLY Iran has to keep face.

It’s a strong-arm culture.

That regime stays in power through force. Weakness is rewarded with a coup, popular uprising or protests, etc.

In that part of the world, the best you get is a “benevolent” ruler as in Jordan.

Iran will say ridiculous things and ruffle their feathers, a lot. This is not for our consumption, but to maintain appearances for their own.

Our MSM will perpetuate what they hear because they are all about sensationalism, contradicting Trump, etc.

Compromise is necessary if you want peace. You are right, compromise does not equate to surrender. There are things we can offer to Iran to sweeten the deal, may it be offering them non-weapons grade Uranium, in the conflict with Israel, frozen and seized assets, etc.

The point is, we achieve our national security interests. And if Iran achieves some of their interests, GREAT! It’s not just about denying the opponent any sort of win, that would create a lose-lose situation. It’s about achieving our goals at the minimum cost for us AND them and that means you want them to have a win also!

If you create a situation where Iran has nothing to gain, there is no chance of any sort of win for them, where do you think negotiations will lead?

I think you are correct, he had a deal with one side and the other took over negating it. We apparently did not understand where the power was in their system of government. We were over reliant on the belief the civil side would win out over the Islamic nut jobs.

We began trying to ensure their nuke program was kaput and are now arguing over the free movement of shipping through the Straits. Trump is trying to negotiate his way out of the war and that is not going as we hoped. Worse, we got the backstabbing media and dems undermining our position.

I don’t have most all of the info the president has so it would be foolish for me to speculate. From the uninformed point of view, I’d say be careful in any talks with nut case zealots, their end point is not the same as ours. Recall the Japs had thousands of zealots who would crash a plane with a bomb into a ship fully knowing the war was lost.

“mandatory withdraw of forces”

The weapons can be supplied by parking them in Israel. Give us our B-2s back, pretty please!

The men can be supplied by granting leave. Who could imagine a B-2 crew member would want to work for Israel at double the rate of USAF pay to kill off IRGC thugs?

The Trump admin assumption was, apprently, that taking the leadership out would cause a popular uprising by the Iranian people. When that didn’t happen there was no Plan B because to do it by military force would be a massive and historical operation. There simply isn’t the political will to get that done now for reasons of your chosing.

“offering them non-weapons grade Uranium”

It is my understanding that plutonium can be produced in reactors and that is how North Korea made its bombs.

Sunny Iran can use solar panels, which would be more economic than nuclear power plants for them. I read that about 25% of Pakistani households have solar panels.
