Before Michelangelo, before Leonardo, there was Giotto.
Step back into the 14th century to discover the life and legacy of Giotto di Bondone, the man hailed by history as the "Father of European Painting." In this documentary, we explore how a humble shepherd boy from Vespignano shattered the flat, symbolic traditions of Byzantine art to breathe real human emotion, three-dimensional space, and dramatic narrative into the world of the living.
Using our analysis model, we decode Giotto's revolutionary "Divine Spark"—from his legendary discovery by Cimabue to the breathtaking frescoes of the Scrovegni Chapel that serve as the "visual vernacular" of the early Renaissance. Giotto: The Father of the Renaissance

At over two hours, guess what? No transcript will be posted. I'm not even going to run it, probably, because A) it's in the new style, which requires use of my doodad for that, and that requires some eyeballing; B) it's huge; and C) given the narrator's accent, there could be an enormous number of YT transcription mistakes.
Since it is about ART, it's probable that watching it will work better anyway, eh? I've got it streaming in the other room and can't see the screen, so, go figure.
[a few minutes later] Okay, I ran my doodad. Did corrections to two misspellings of "Giotto" that I noticed, plastered it back into this file. Oh, and I'm still not planning to run it. At 2500 words at a time, it would take perhaps a half hour, if it went smoothly.
This looks good; my late night is filled, now. Thanks for posting.
I think an earthquake a few years ago shattered one of his frescoes. They wete going to try to restore it?
I dunno, let’s find out...
Wow! 2002, good memory!

My pleasure.
One of my favorite artists.
Thanks so much. I’ll be watching this weekend.

I learned about Giotto from the Kenneth Clark Civilization series. It was first broadcast in 1969 and ran for 13 episodes. Excellent series! There was a PBS remake called 'Civilizations' but I don't recommend that one. Just Leftist claptrap.
Thx!
In his apartment building his buzzer was right between “F. Otto” and “H. Otto”. /rimshot
Years ago there was a special exhibition in Grand Rapids of Perugino, which was slammed by the NY Slimes to the effect — “never has a more important exhibition appeared in a less important place” — he was smack in the middle between Giotto and the full renaissance bloom. They never met obviously, but he was clearly another of the great ones and indirectly influenced by G.
My pleasure.
