But a new study has found a growing connection between cannabis use and detrimental effects on mental health. Smoking weed has previously been found to have an impact on the brain by altering dopamine activity that closely resembles patterns observed in psychosis.
Now, a study led by McMaster University and published in The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry has shown that increasing cannabis use and worsening mental health symptoms are appearing together more and more often.
“We see that Canadians who use cannabis tend to be more likely to meet criteria for anxiety and depressive disorders, and more likely to report suicidality,” said Jillian Halladay, an assistant professor in the School of Nursing at McMaster. “We also see that this co-occurrence has strengthened over time.”

Sorry nick - I guess I forgot the sarcasm tag.
Won’t happen again, I promise.
This is from someone who has never been influenced by peer pressure and resisted the use of both. I consider myself an impartial observer. I do not object to the use of either substance on moral grounds.
I am from Western Washington, many of my pot head friends have already died, many of the rest have been afflicted with mental issues. Some have been OK, but by the time we are in our 60s it becomes more and more apparent which lifestyle choices had negative impact. Obviously, boozing has been a problem for some, but I firmly believe based on those that I have been around for many decades that pot use has been worse.
Shortly after marijuana was legalized in California, there was a terrible care accident, where four young people died. The media was obsessed with it. But the second the toxicology came back and they were on Marijuana, it was on page 53, then never mentioned again. Kind of like the D.C. sniper.
Bingo
We all would.
That is a very valid observation...
No, the anti-pot heads are the worst. They blame every ill of society on it. #1 lawyers trying to get clients off will use the he was high on pot defense whether applicable or not. #2 people hate the smell of it in their neighborhood. Can’t blame them there. #3 grant seekers wanting money blame it to “study it” for more money of course. #4 ignore the evidence it helps PTSD vets or people with glaucoma. #5 residual effects of Reefer Madness, the movie that was a parody but was taken as gospel.
Are you high? Memory loss js one of the symptoms.
I blame tik tok and the reduction to everything to 20 second clips.
Liberals are always depressed and anxious.
MY keyboard has Tourettes and types whatever it pleases.
LOL!
Is the cannabis use causing the depression or is the user’s depression leading to the cannabis use? Causation or correlation?

Correlation is not causation. Many people with mental disorders seek out these drugs to self medicate but the establishment keeps suggesting the drugs are the cause of those mental disorders which is bs.
THC has increased more than ten times in pot over the past couple of decades. Pot is now a strong hallucinogenic drug. There are going to be psychological side effects.

***to meet criteria for anxiety and depressive disorders,***
We had a man hauling ash for us from the power Plant decades ago. One day he was arrested for killing another driver over a drug deal. When he was arrested his trailer house was FILTHY with roaches and rotted food everywhere. A photo showed him with his hair clear down to his belt.
“The same exact thing can be said of ALCOHOL use. ALCOHOL is poisonous to the body.”
