Furious residents of liberal city claim it stinks of CANNABIS and they can't escape... years after legalizing marijuana

Residents of a liberal city in Missouri have been complaining to officials that it stinks of cannabis everywhere they go.

In Rock Hill, Missouri, a small city with a population of around 4,700 in the St Louis metropolitan area, the number of complaints about cannabis odor shot up in the second half of 2025.

The city received 99 complaints about stinky weed between April and December of last year. Rock Hill's city administrator Garrett Schlett told the St Louis Post-Dispatch the number represents a significant uptick from previous years.

Missouri legalized medical marijuana use in 2018, and recreational use was legalized in late 2022.

In 2021, Missouri-based cannabis company Proper Brands opened a facility in Rock Hill's Industrial Court, which is where the stench that residents have been complaining about originates.

Proper Brands' 60,000 square foot warehouse cultivates marijuana plants and manufactures a variety of cannabis products.

According to the company's CEO, John Pennington, the strong odor inside can escape and be carried by wind when employees leave or exit the warehouse.

And the wind takes the odor far. Schlett, the city administrator, said he and others can sometimes smell it at city hall, which is about half a mile from the warehouse.

Whatever happened to the “smoke free” places? Tobacco is bad but pot is OK to smoke?

Tacoma, WA too!!!

We have a pot drying and storage facility that stinks up the whole city. When the wind is slightly from the South, my yard will reek of skunk weed all day. The stench is awful and strong, from about 1.5 miles away.

Sounds like they need a double door airlock setup for ingress/egress. Not hard. 2 pot stores in my town, never notice a smell.

In CA they outlawed smoking weed within some distance of a shop. Not sure of the distance or if a local or state ordinance. There are also distance requirements from schools and other places. BUT. This had the unintended consequence of pushing the smoking into residential neighborhoods. Pot heads measured the distance and put up markers and they all light up there. Terrible persistent odors. I'm happy to see the shops run out of business by the illegal sellers who can undercut the taxed prices by greater than 50%. It's happening frequently here now.

Eat your peas, Voters! Or, move.

In the middle of the countryside on the I5 in WA, there can be a car about a mile ahead of you in the distance, and their skunk weed will come right through your air ducts and ruin your drive.

That’s some strong Shiite.

Maybe they have a problem with skunks? Have they considered that yet? Kill all your skunks and if the smell persist... Then it’s the marijuana.

Every time that I go to New York City, it reeks of pot. Sometimes I think I’m imagining things but other people tell me they smell it too.

That’s what they are hoping so they can sue pot sellers for ‘hiding the truth’ like they sued cigarette manufacturers for 80 billion which was sposed to go to schools, but never did

Interesting. I live in an unusual spot. A desert turned into an oasis by irrigation from 300 reservoirs on the nearby Grand Mesa. Dry desert air but plenty of water and many acres of fruit trees and vegetable growing. The largest grower in town sends peaches to 36 states.

I discovered this new, super-strong skunk marijuana in Chicago. The alley behind my apt. building often reeked of skunk spray. One evening I said to a neighbor that I didn’t realize there were skunks living in downtown Chicago. He looked at me like I was crazy. Are you kidding? That’s pot. Oh! Okay. Evidently it’s called — appropriately — skunk.

Yep. Smoking weed pollutes the atmosphere and is harmful to other humans, animals etc.

The FR weed bros should be here soon

In CA the legal grows are required by law to install air filters on their exhaust air.

I don’t know about other locales.

...a significant percentage of the American population has embraced regular drug use and an overall neo pagan...

Neo pagan? Let's not forget the Victorians and their dual gods of psuedoscience and money.

I personally have no sympathy for the residents of that place. If they were stupid enough to vote to legalize it.
