HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island man has died in what police are calling a “freak accident” in a McDonald’s drive-thru Tuesday morning.
Police and firefighters were called just before 10:30 a.m. to the McDonalds on 2nd Street, where they found a man trapped between his vehicle and the fast food restaurant payment window. He was taken to the CHI St. Francis emergency room, where he was pronounced dead.
Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott said it was “100% a freak accident”.
“It appears the deceased opened the door to further reach out the window for payment purposes.” Elliott said. “We’re not sure if the vehicle lurched forward or what happened, but he got pinched between the door frame and the drive thru window counter.”
McDonalds is deadly.
Pretty dang awful Merry Christmas for his family.
Prayers up.
Never open the car door like that. Never.
Has the family sued yet?
Both points are good advice. Thank you
I’m sure they will sue McDonald’s. The grounds will be something about how that drive through lane is not safe.
Driver carelessness notwithstanding, a lawsuit and a large settlement is coming.
“Man dies in ‘freak accident’ in McDonald’s drive thru in Grand Island”
Probably due to the SATURATED FAT in their meet, at least according to our ‘medical community’.
Eventually. fast food places may paint a yellow stripe next to the service window, with a sign
‘For driver safety, put Motor in NEUTRAL & STOP HERE>>
DO NOT DRIVE ANY CLOSER to the window unless requested by the Cashier!”
This may save some restaurants from liability lawsuits by
survivors of Over-Eager-Eaters!!
Coupons for a year’s worth of free Mac-Nuggets may not be enough.
That’s bad. Worst I ever did was try to cut the corner too quick and nicked the building.
I have to open my door at my ATM...but I put it in park
‘We’re not sure if the vehicle lurched forward or what happened,“
Chief, see if there are any cameras that cover the delivery window .
Was the deceased obese?
I hope he didn’t suffer much.
That really is a freak accident.
There’s a joke about “short arm” in there somewhere.
This same thing happened to a childhood friend a few years back. He went home and died of internal bleeding.
I avoid drive up windows entirely unless I don’t have a choice.
“but I put it in park”
When I pick up at the pharmacy drive-through, first it goes into park, then the emergency brake goes on.
