I love elephants.
Do you have any info on Jumbo or Topsy? Supposedly electrocuted?
It’s sweet that the people honor the dead elephants. To Hindus, the elephant symbolizes power and wisdom and Ganesha, one of the best loved of their pantheon, has the head of an elephant.
“In a freak accident, 7 elephants were killed after a Rajdhani Train collided with a herd of elephants.” In all the things I read today, that is the most unusual.
It’s a problem in India. There was an incident last year where 11 were killed in a similar accident.
It’s still early.................
That’s irrelephant
Makes a terrific BBQ!
Feed hundreds.
Whew, that was close! Dang near lost a 400 dollar hand car.
Along with big cats, bears, and boars, the Indian government long since has taken the position to try to ‘shoo’ the wild elephants away from populated areas but otherwise not try to restrain their movements, and deal with the consequences — including the inevitable losses of human life — as they occur. Elephants kill more Indians than tigers, by a wide margin. Plus they wreak havoc on farms.
How do you think they should be managed?
I’ve read that they are starting to use several AI systems to track the elephants, alert to problems and migrations, etc.
Amazing the engine stayed on the tracks.
The elephants usually have the right of way when encountering cars and buses. These probably thought the same would happen.
