At a recent gun show I picked up a still-in-the-box Henry Steel Lever 30-30. The gent selling it had shoulder replacement and was unloading the rifle a a good price. He said he had fired it less than 10 times. Not a mark on it. So it came home with me.
My question for the group here is this - what's the 'right' leather sling for this rifle? This rifle will not see hard use - my old faithful Marlin 336R is my rifle for short range stands. It'll go in the woods in two weeks for modern firearm season.
I want a classic leather sling that'll honor the Henry. Nothing highspeed or black - just a simple sling. Don't need the ability to store extra cartridges - the firearm holds six rounds, which is an entire season if my shots are good.
Where might I go to get a quality, durable sling up to the reputation and quality of a Henry?

We who suffer the slings and arrows of your outrageous fortune?..................
Does your Henry have sling studs installed?
Hell, a person has two shoulders!
My dad has a great leather sling for his .22 Henry lever action and his Winchester .30-30 - I’ll ask him where he got them. They’re really nice, heavy duty like, military style.
Are you limited to 1” slings by factory sling attachments?
Right now it is ‘factory’ - I can get the swivel mounts from Henry Outfitters.
I don’t buy off e-bay. But there are a lot for sale there. This is more of a “what would you buy for a nice Henry?”
He’s a brave man - getting it done at 76.
I think he’s done except for drinkin’ at deer camp ;-)
I see a buffalo hide, handmade-by-the-Amish sling on ebay for $25.
Simply Rugged Holsters offers their “Alaskan” sling, which is simple, traditional and made of good leather. Three possible colors.
Why not a Henry for your Henry? (Wisconsin proud company)

Check Midway USA and Brownells. Both have a good selection of standard slings.
If you want something of extra quality with some handwork in their manufacture, look at El Paso Saddlery.
I have the Browning Buffalo Nickle leather sling on a lever gun. It works well and looks beautiful.

I see you have a lot of good response. I have purchased different slings which have worked well, higher tech to simple leather. I have also made my own from self tanned leather to modifying military surplus leather. Right now the belt I am wearing was last worn as a back cinch on a horse.
Making your own is very satisfying.
