St.Jude researchers revealed that midkine blocks amyloid beta from forming harmful clumps linked to Alzheimer’s. Without it, the damaging assemblies accelerate, but with it, growth halts. The finding could inspire new drugs that harness midkine’s protective power.

St.Jude researchers revealed that midkine blocks amyloid beta from forming harmful clumps linked to Alzheimer’s. Without it, the damaging assemblies accelerate, but with it, growth halts. The finding could inspire new drugs that harness midkine’s protective power. Not a "may", "could", "linked to" or "associated with" in this sentence. Therefore - science. And something to be encouraged about.
If they are in an article like this then it's statistical guesswork based on looing at studies of thing unrelated to the topic at hand, and can be dismissed until real science is done.

Kind of.
MK appears to enhance the angiogenic and proliferative activities of cancer cells. The expression of MK (mRNA and protein expression) has been found to be elevated in multiple cancer types, such as neuroblastoma, glioblastoma, Wilms’ tumors, thyroid papillary carcinomas, colorectal, liver, ovary, bladder, breast, lung, esophageal, stomach, and prostate cancers.
I sure wouldn’t supplement with it.

Although I hope they are correct in that the amyloid plaque clumps themselves are the cause of the disorder ... I do not believe that is the case. My theory is that the sticky clumps are a defensive shield; the body/brain is attempting to defend itself from an invasive organism, or perhaps a prion or virus. I suspect preventing the shield from being raised will put the disorder into rapid advancement. I hope I'm wrong. Time will tell.
