Vinay Prasad, the FDA’s top vaccine and gene therapy regulator, was the target of a right-wing pressure campaign over his handling of drug approvals and past support for Democrats.
A top Food and Drug Administration official is getting his job back, a spokesman for health agencies said Saturday, less than two weeks after he was ousted at the direction of the White House.
Vinay Prasad will return as the top regulator overseeing vaccines and complex treatments for difficult diseases, a position he lost following a right-wing pressure campaign.
“At the FDA’s request, Dr. Vinay Prasad is resuming leadership of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research,” said Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson Andrew Nixon in a statement. “Neither the White House nor HHS will allow the fake news media to distract from the critical work the FDA is carrying out under the Trump administration.”
Prasad was among the scientists who joined the Trump administration as senior health officials after rising to prominence for criticizing the public health response to the coronavirus pandemic.
In July, the physician had come under fire from some Republicans and conservative activists, including far-right activist Laura Loomer, over his approach to drug approvals, as well as his previous support for Democratic politicians.
The White House directed his July 29 ouster, three people familiar with the situation previously told The Washington Post. They spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a personnel matter.
Loomer, who previously told The Post that Prasad came on her radar because of an HHS tipster, described his return as an “egregious personnel decision."

I did not vote for Laura Loomer. I voted for Donald Trump.
Prasad is a good person - a brave, lone voice of reason during Covid. Loomer is a nutball, and force for chaos. Even when she does identify a bad person, her public outburst approach is a net negative for the Trump admin.
Someone needs to gag her.
Shes doing a greater job of vetting swampsters than the People surrounding and isolating Trump. Let Loomer be Loomer.

I don’t know about this guy but Loomer has done correct vetting of swamp creatures more than most of the administration itself. She needs a special project to look directly at the DOJ and FBI. They aren’t doing it. This current administration is as swampy as administration 45.
I thought I was the only one with reservations about Loomer. Good to read otherwise.
Sen McCarthy was wrong about some Commies and spys in the Truman days. So what? Overall, he was 100% right about the infiltration of the State Dept as well as other agencies.
Loomer is also occassionally wrong or over-excited. Still, on balance, we need gadflies like Loomer and McCarthy. You can bet the leftist media will let us know with their screeching voices whenever she is wrong - just like they did with McCarthy.
Yet, have you read what she says about bessent? The guy who was involved with the Soros raid on the Bank of England?
100% Trump has moved towards the “dark side” on some issues. It is not Making America Great Again, to criminalize the 1st amendment. If they want to arrest people for harrassment and assault, go for it. Holding a sign should NEVER be a crime, not should a post picking on the favorite race in the Nation.
Who does Loomer ultimately work for?
She has linked to Roger Stone Jr. (Roger Stone) who claims to be a Trump supporter but Stone goes back to being a political operative for Arlen Specter and Richard Nixon.
I dont know who pays her, as an independent journo/pundit….but I know she made a great comeback from being deplatformed and debanked for daring to try to attend a so-called public islamofascist meeting where they refused her

I watched him all through Covid. Dr. Prasad has been fighting against bad science for decades.
Who is she trying to root out of the Trump Administration on behalf of who?
Prasad was great on Covid science. But he is anti right-to-try.
And I doubt Loomer works for Big Pharma.
