The Air Force is looking to buy two Cybertrucks for "live missile fire testing."

It said the Tesla pickups were "likely" to start appearing on the battlefield.

It added that they don't "receive the normal extent of damage expected upon major impact."

The US Air Force wants to blow up some Cybertrucks.

It's looking to buy two of them to use for munitions testing as they will "likely" soon start appearing on the battlefield, per documents posted on a US Government contracting website on Wednesday.

Advertisement The pickups are part of a larger order of 33 vehicles for "live missile fire testing" at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.

The contract stipulates that the Cybertrucks need only be towable, not functional, and their batteries must be removed. The procurement documents were first reported by the defense blog The War Zone.

In a separate document justifying why the Tesla vehicles were specifically required, the contracting officer said that US adversaries were "likely" to begin using the stainless steel-clad trucks on the battlefield due to their durability.

"In the operating theatre it is likely the type of vehicles used by the enemy may transition to Tesla Cybertrucks as they have been found not to receive the normal extent of damage expected upon major impact," the document says.

“their Tesla batteries must be removed”

This is crazy! The batteries must be intact to blow them up real good. For a real field testing simulation.

This is just gold plated money wasting. I want someone to show me a US Air Force missile that they were he might be defeated by a cyber truck. There’s a lot of good signs out there, and there’s a lot of money wasting for engineers to have fun.

Because future battlefields will have charging stations throughout...

This is silly. Elon can just remote shutdown the cybertruck.

Why are military plans being leaked to the general public? This is how our enemies end up knowing exactly what we are up to and can plan to neutralize it. Find these damned leakers and prosecute.

A few sheets of plywood and a golf cart would be a well suited mock-up.

This is not likely a military secret and is being put out for bid on the open market. DOD buys an incredible amount and it is all out in the open on a procurement website.

Every Tesla used in Testing must have a bumper sticker on the back that says “I bought this Cybertruck before I knew Elon Musk was crazy“!

That would certainly make the target practice so much more fun! In the future… This could even be used as a substitute for IFF on the battlefield… :-)

Toyota Hilux official brand of Jihadis everywhere. They get a mass buy discount at the dealers.

First time I saw a Technical with a .50 machine gun was 1992 or so. Me and buddies got lots of laughs. Was Somalia probably.

Having been involved in things the government wanted to be secret, I can tell you that if the government wants it secret, it’s secret. Having said that, the amount of open-source material available is mind boggling. That’s because if it’s out in the open, it’s hard for any money to end up in an oligarch’s basement. I came a bit late for the SR-71, but I worked on the same team probably 15 years later. When the SR-71 first flew over Russia, maneuvering at Mach 3.3 at over a hundred thousand feet, the Soviet’s panicked. They sallied their norther fleet. They made the largest non-scheduled army maneuver in history to that point. We found out later they identified it as an alien spaceship. So, yeah, the US can keep secrets.

If they have any brains or sense of financial responsibility they can just use a couple that have been declared totaled after an accident but are still structurally sound and intact (just with a warped chassis and related damage for example).

So make some cheap wooden targets. or even inflatable ones. Don’t need to piss away tax dollars on actual tesla bodies.
