That’s a crap load of partying!
A summertime island hotspot off Cape Cod will start testing its sewage for cocaine and other drugs to find out when and how often residents are getting high, officials said.
Nantucket health officials want to sniff out when drug use spikes — including seasonally and around holidays — to help folks with recovery outreach in the scenic town, the Nantucket Current reported.
“Everyone’s got a good idea of what the [drug] situation is, but we have very little direct measurement,” the town’s human services director, Jerico Mele, told the outlet. “When we get away from our gut to getting data, we get a better picture of what’s going on.”
Biobot, a firm that specializes in wastewater epidemiology, will start testing the island’s Surfside Wastewater Treatment Facility for drugs — also including fentanyl, opiates, methamphetamine and nicotine — later this month, according to the report.
The goal is to potentially team up with drug rehab centers and medical providers to help local addicts based on the results, Mele said.
“If we can get an idea of the standard usage of drugs, we can see if interventions and behaviors change the rate of consumption,” Mele said. “That can give us a scorecard on the efforts and reducing usage.”
The data gathering project is Nantucket’s, well, number two in the world of sewage: In 2020, it started testing its wastewater for COVID-19 and still does weekly.
Officials don’t plan to post the new drug testing results publicly but may share them with healthcare partners, they said.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I’m curious about the technology that allows them to determine resident sewage amongst the presumably much greater amount of summer tourist sewage.
Since when did Massachusetts give a crap about people doing drugs? They’ve legalized the use of medical and recreational marijuana.
If you’re old and rich why not/ It’s not like they’ll be late for work.
Yessssssssssssssss!
BEST comment since, well,...... It's just a GREAT comment.
.
Probabaly a bunch of copraphages getting their rocks.
“If?”
The test will show false positive if Hunter has been visiting.
And believe it or not…. We have legalized alcohol too…. Crazy
If they’re old and rich, you’d think they’d wish to spend the last years of their lives enjoying more important things in the time they have left, not spend it in a drug haze till the end.
I hope they enjoy killing their livers with alcohol, and driving around drunk or high on drugs. I think God had other ideas about how we should spend our lives. I’m not very religious, but I do cherish the life he has given me enough not to spend it drunk or high. I managed to outlive everyone in my family who smoked their whole lives, while one was an alcoholic. Nobody in my family made it past 74. I’ll be 78 soon.
It’s not enough Liberals want us living in the dark and playing with our own feces, but now they want to test poop to see if anyone is having fun. Every story like this makes me smile because I got out of MA with most of my $ and moved someplace sane.
“Officials don’t plan to post the new drug testing results publicly but may share them with healthcare partners...”
If the public is paying for it, they should be given the results.
i’m curious to the laws that allow them to do this and if they will try and entrap anybody...i don’t do drugs and have never done cocaine, but how hysterical is it a week after the “no kings” debacle, an uber liberal “village” is doing something like this?
They’re not looking for cocaine, they’re looking for other drugs - the kind that point toward needing to send in the National Guard and deport people.
“ Since when did Massachusetts give a crap about people doing drugs? They’ve legalized the use of medical and recreational marijuana.”
Treasury money grab.
‘That’s Labrador man…’
