MADISON, Wis. -- An apartment occupant reportedly used tequila to marinade a home-cooked turkey Sunday evening, causing the oven door to "blow open."
According to the Madison Fire Department, the 911 caller said they were cooking a turkey in the oven for eight minutes when the oven door "blew open."
Firefighters arrived at the 5000 block of Old Middleton Road at 6:16 p.m. to check the oven. A thermal imaging camera was used, and firefighters opened the oven, which had blue flames that came out.
The oven was removed from the apartment, and the occupant said they have used this recipe before and had no issues.
Although the occupant had used this recipe before with no issues, firefighters presume the accumulated vapors from the alcohol were not being vented properly from the oven and, when exposed to oxygen, would ignite.
According to MFD, the occupant had to be evaluated for burns but was not taken to the hospital.
And then, on the OTHER side of town:
“A Michigan man with a hankering for squirrel and an alarmingly low number of f-—s to give accidentally set an apartment fire that is now estimated to cost $2,000,000 dollars.
In what is likely the only time it has ever been said that he has expensive taste, Khek Chantalavong of Holland, Michigan trapped a squirrel for dinner back in 2012, as one does. Obviously you can’t eat a squirrel until it’s been relieved of its fur, so Khek reached for the most obvious tool for the job — a propane torch. What happened next was something that his neighbors at Clearview Apartments will never forget.
Sadly, Chantalavong’s culinary innovation did not result in a perfectly-cooked medium rare squirrel flank steak, but rather a catastrophic fire, which temporarily displaced 29 families, some of whom lost everything to the blaze. They really hit the bad neighbor jackpot on that one. When he wasn’t causing the whole place to stink like burnt hair, he was literally burning the place down. Talk about rolling snake eyes.”

???????
“Tequila marinated turkey?” So Mitch McConnell?
I would suggest you find a place that makes a marinated steak (any bourbon will work). The alcohol is completely burned off in the cooking process, so you get the flavor and nothing else. I haven’t had a drink in over 30 years and I still like that Jack Daniels steak ... really good flavor.
These writers are getting dumber by the day. The verb is “marinate,” and the mixture used is a “marinade.”
Substandard writing is becoming much too common.
It’s the worms fault

“That’s actually an interesting idea. Not sure what it does for the flavor but ..”
Tequila marinated chicken cooked over mesquite wood is a regular thing in South Texas cowboy country.
Tequila, lime juice, crushed garlic, cumin powder, adobo chili peppers ground to powder or any red pepper really. Soak that bird for a day before then hit it first low and slow over mesquite coal then at the last minute drop the grate or go.directly to the surface of the coals for sear the ash will blow off no worries mate.
Warm fresh tortillas also grilled over those coals, pintos and a cold Shiner Bock texmex for days.
I will honestly look into it, at your recommendation.
*SEND ME RECIPE NOW!* 😆
If you can find a chef that does it combined with charcoal seasoning, your taste buds will be thanking you for days!
Say no more! I'm in! Worth risking burning down my entire apartment complex for!
