Getting older might seem like a slow, gradual process – but that's not always the case, research suggests.
In fact, if you wake up one morning, look in the mirror, and wonder if your aging somehow accelerated, you might not be imagining things.
According to a recent study into the molecular changes associated with aging, humans experience two drastic lurches forward, one at the average age of 44, and the other at the average age of 60.
"We're not just changing gradually over time; there are some really dramatic changes," geneticist Michael Snyder of Stanford University explained in August 2024 when the study was published.

I would’ve put MONEY on the fact that you age FASTER when you have three TEEN BOYS underfoot! :)
You’re welcome FRiend
Inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened.
I’m 57..
I stopped looking into the mirror a while ago.
I’m already depressed as it is...
Experience kind of tells us this.
Growth and aging.
I hit 70 and I hated it that life seem to go so fast. The day flew by.
Then it dawned on me that the day wasn’t really moving any faster. I had just slowed down and the day got away from me.
.
My mirror laughs at me when I come out of the shower
My first lurch wasn’t until about late 50s.
All of a sudden people stopped telling me I looked much 0 to 15 years younger than my age.
Forty for me.
And then mid-60’s.
I’m three years away from 95...
I have aged mostly when tax time comes around and when communists are in the WH...
God bless 🙏
Same here!
Praying for our blessed Lord to smile on you.
Well I am a bit older and suddenly I am hearing that again.
But they are comparing a much lower bar.
Not I thought you were mid 40s.
Now I thought you were only in your early 60s.
I did okay at 40 but past 60 has been brutal.
In my case having a daughter go through puberty at the same time my then wife was going through menopause...
What happened with me is people went from saying, “I thought you were only in your early 40s” to “I love your hair!” (I’ve let it gray naturally.)
People consistently peg my age at 25 years younger than my actual age. Same with my siblings.
That is because, mostly, teenage boys are stuck in a time warp that aligns with the troglodyte era in human development, but usually snap out of it as they get older.
LORD have mercy on you. Your parents didn’t name you Job, by any chance, did they?
