It rained sharks in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, last month after a small hammerhead shark fell from the sky and interrupted a local disc golf game.
The unexpected disc golf hazard was actually a bird’s lost lunch.
Teeing off on 11 at Splinter [Disc City Golf Course] and saw an osprey carrying something over us,” Marlowe wrote. “Two crows chased it into a tree where it dropped its prey.”
In the photos, the shark appeared to be a little more than a foot long.
While hammer throws may have been in the forecast for the golf outing, a hammerhead certainly wasn’t.

While certainly in the hammerhead family, this one is actually a Bonnethead shark.
Bonnetheads being the smallest of the 10 hammerhead shark species.

For about a week after seeing Jaws at the theater I didn’t even want to drive through a water filled pot hole on the street and was uneasy about toilets, a shark falling on me at the golf course would have been it.

When I was little we would go fishing. When we caught the small dogfish sharks. We would grab it by the tail and whack it against the side of boat as hard we could. Some sank, some were stuned for a while, then started swimming.
Sharks have been with us as long as alligators and crocodiles. 200 million years. They out survived the dinosaurs.

In the photos, the shark appeared to be a little more than a foot long. If Subway had measured up to this shark, it wouldn't have been sued for cheating.

“who hasn’t had a shark drop from the sky on them?”
Never had that happen but Living on the Florida coast I’ve spent my share of time in the ocean.
Back in the 80s I found myself in chest deep water on a morning that the ocean was completely calm as a lake.
And then around 15 feet away a black fin pops up and begins swimming parallel to the beach.
At that point I began to egress the water as quickly and especially as quietly as possible.
Most people don’t realize if you’ve spent any time at all in the ocean you’ve more than likely been within 10 feet of a shark and never knew it, and probably on more than one occasion.
