Nixon was a brilliant politician.

Not particularly “conservative” but far better than Carter.

Watergate was a media coup against a popular, siting president.

I Was on WestPac when the Shah fled Iran. Great t-shirt began selling on the streets of Olongapo; it was a picture of the Shah, and read “ I RAN”

It’s absolutely incredible the damage that Carter did to not only this country, but the whole world.

That is kind of like the permanent damage that Biden has done to this country.

I liked Nixon, and viewed the entire thing as a Leftist setup.

I’ll always be grateful to Richard Nixon for Linebacker II, the bombing of North Vietnam, and the mining of Haiphong Harbor.

We should have done that in 1966. At least.

We had Iranian students in 78-79, many in engineering .
There were some anti Shah protests.
Yes the Shaw was brutal.
But if these students had any idea what was coming I don’t think they ever would have wanted what they now have.

I remember meeting Persians (as they called themselves after the revolution) in the US, bemoaning what had happened to Iran after the Shah fell.

True, perhaps, and true.

The not particularly conservative part.. I guess I don’t care anymore because I’m not sure what that even means.

Conservatives principles are not as important as defeating the deep state.

After the deep state is defeated, we can focus on conservative principles.

There were always protest by Iranians at Texas Tech cir 1978-79. They wore mask made from paper plates around the campus UC area.

Funny how when the Shah fell, they disappeared since their school funding was cut off.

You’re right on all three points.

The media was happy to oblige the Deep State.

My ship was on Modloc outside Singapore waiting for orders to back up the Shah. We never got the orders and have had hell to pay ever since.

Persian rice, or ‘tahdig’ is very good:

I’ve also seen it done with a layer of potatoes in the bottom:

I did my EMT training with one of the Shah’s U.S. body guards right after the Shah died. He seemed like a good dude. I also worked for a woman who took in a high Iranian official’s daughter after the fall of Iran. The mother and father got the kid out and were never heard from again.

The Shah might have been cooperative, if the students were peaceful.

“Two really stupid things”

The stupidest thing of all was going off the gold standard.
