The economy appears to be booming, consumer confidence is rising, inflation is coming in lower, and job growth higher, than expected. Normally, we’d all be celebrating good news like this. But not when Donald Trump is sitting in the White House. Then it must be ignored or explained away.
Ever since Trump took office, we’ve been treated to a steady diet of doomsaying. His tariffs would fuel inflation. He was driving the economy toward a recession. When the Commerce Department reported a slight contraction in the first quarter – so slight that future revisions could show that the economy expanded in the first three months – the same cast of characters started shouting “See, we told you so!”
But then the data started coming in, and suddenly those voices went silent. Why? Because it’s all been “unexpected” good news.
On Monday, for example, the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank updated its GDPNow forecast – which projects quarterly economic growth in real time based on ongoing data releases. The current “nowcast,” as it’s called, shows growth in the second quarter of 4.6%, which is up from the 3.8% growth figure released last week.
The latest Consumer Price Index shows inflation in April was just 2.3%, marking the third consecutive monthly decline under Trump, and hitting a low not seen since February 2021, which, for those keeping score, was the month before Joe Biden went on his $1.9 trillion “American Rescue Plan” spendathon.
The monthly jobs report for April came in higher than expected, with the creation of 177,000 jobs, after the March report came in significantly higher than expected. Yesterday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a “surprising” increase in the number of job openings.
People are noticing these positive trends, as well.
The Consumer Confidence Index jumped more than 12 points in May after a series of declines, and the Conference Board’s “Expectations Index” — which measures consumers’ short-term outlook for income, business, and labor market conditions — surged 17.4 points.
“Consumers were less pessimistic about business conditions and job availability over the next six months and regained optimism about future income prospects,” the Conference Board says.
In addition, more than half of those surveyed by the Harvard/Harris poll now say the economy is strong, which is the first time that’s happened since June 2021.
And, to top it off, Trump’s job approval has been trending upward. The spread in the RealClearPolitics is now just -2.2 points – it was -7.1 points in late April. The public’s approval of his handling of the economy, in particular, has improved.
And a larger share of people think the country is on the right track than at any time in the past 16 years.
“It’s true that this is just a couple months of data, and things could turn south with more tariff wars,” note our friends at the Committee to Unleash Prosperity. “But it’s noteworthy that the economic ‘experts’ and the media were all doom and gloom six weeks ago.”
And the ongoing success of the economy now rests heavily on the shoulders of Republicans in Congress, who still can’t seem to get their act together to do what needs to be done: keep Trump’s 2017 tax cuts from expiring,
For now, enjoy watching those with advanced cases of Trump Derangement Syndrome suffer from fits of apoplexy as the good news keeps rolling in.
Those who hate Western Civilization are not happy.
Oh, they can hope for a natural disaster, or gin up some summer riots. All is not lost....
It’s great these number are good. But I wish it would show in elections. We got screamed in Mississippi, South Carolina and a few other states yesterday. We need to begin winning elections.
I took three minutes to rewatch his intro to the black journalists meeting. It’s hilarious-his comeback. When introduced no one clapped. Then the nasty questions started. Vintage Trump. It was like watching another Joe Montana comeback win.
Check it out(again).

Tell that to the Jooz.
“The economy appears to be booming, consumer confidence is rising, inflation is coming in lower, and job growth higher, than expected.”
Well fuel is down a little, job growth is better but food and pretty much everything is still high and doubtful it will return to normal.
I recall a story from last week in which -- for the first time ever -- more than 50% of poll respondents felt that the country was on the right track. No president had ever scored so high in 29 years of poll keeping. But now they indicate that the story might have been better as recently as 16 years ago? That would give Obama the credit, right?
We like to say W.I.N.N.I.N.G!
.....agree.....here in Central Texas I doubt food and gas prices have fallen much, if at all....local gas station still posting a gallon of regular at $2.79.....was $2.65 before that and was still $2.59 before THAT....! $200 worth of groceries still won’t bring home a whole lot....prices still seem to be quite high...
They never are.
***or gin up some summer riots.***
In the past, police Helicopters would fly over slum areas and watch for a buildup of bricks and rocks on the roof tops. If they saw such a thing they knew a riot was brewing in the future.
They have not given up and winning elections is not enough.
Here in Central Ark ground beef is up to $15 or more from around $10, with exceptions most food is still going up. Eggs have dropped some as I suspect they are importing from Mexico now. Trump has done little in the way of helping the consumer much in my opinion...My Dollar only buys about half as much now.
To most people it may not be much but when you can buy a small treat it is everything.
“”Trump has done little in the way of helping the consumer much in my opinion...My Dollar only buys about half as much now.””
It has only been four months. What? Did you assume that he had a magic wand and could work bloody miracles? Did you view Trump as a Godlike figure with special powers... vs. a man being used by God?
If you’re unaware of just how deep the Deep State is... just how corrupt and widespread its reach has expanded to (example: all of the rogue leftist judges throughout the country), and how the “obstruct Trump” movement even in Congress amongst the RINOs and the Rats has been solidly in play for the past four months.... then in addition to expecting unrealistic, immediate gratification results, you haven’t been paying attention.
Jazzy Crocquette is their new Bammy Mammy. Ready for the White House with Beyonce as her VP. This should bring in the horny White Dude “Nice People”.
Well if you need some proof closest to the fire even Musk called BS on much of this as he got into a shoving match over this budget and everything else...This budget is a disaster as certain House members now regret voting for it... The thing is Trump made promises to the voters, either get them done or come out and tell the voters “Hey sorry I made some promises I can’t keep, sorry for your luck.” Example close to me I get tons of junk from the Trump team and the last 5 days I have gotten emails about that $5000 DOGE refund..nothing but BS as at best from accounts Musk found 100 billion... Think it is time to fess up or get the job done...
“”The thing is Trump made promises to the voters, either get them done or come out and tell the voters “Hey sorry I made some promises I can’t keep, sorry for your luck.” “”
Sigh... again.... it has only been FOUR MONTHS. To my recollection... Trump did NOT promise to “fix” everything, which includes the national debt and the economy... in the first four months of his second term.
What he did promise is to close the border, which then bolsters our national security... and which was the main item and priority on his agenda, as it is/was my main priority. And that he has done.
For hellsakes... get a reality check and some measure of reason. Unless ...you just want to bash “orange man bad” cause it’s what’s fun and what you’re used to.
As for the spam emails that you get in your email account, you might try moving it/them to the “Spam” folder as a fix. Just a thought.
“”Well if you need some proof closest to the fire even Musk called BS on much of this as he got into a shoving match over this budget and everything else...This budget is a disaster as certain House members now regret voting for it... “”
One more thing.... I have seen no evidence of any “shoving match” involving Musk. He has dissed the current spending bill, yes. He is disappointed in the lack of spending cuts in it. But then again, it’s probably the best we can hope for currently, in this highly anti-Trump-charged environment that the rabid, radical left has (as usual) created.
You guys expecting miracles need to start accepting reality and dealing with the best we can do for now. You know, or should know, damned well what we’re up against. Unless you are part of that “what we’re up against”... stop bashing OUR SIDE and give a little moral support ... for a very refreshing change.
