Sen. @RandPaulon @SpeakerJohnson's "obscene" spending bill: "No conservative should support raising the debt ceiling $5 trillion. So, that alone is enough for me not to support the bill, even though I support large segments of the bill."

Rand is a NO on the Big, Beautiful Bill!

- "I am for the tax cuts being permanent"

- "What I am against is the $5 trillion hike in the debt ceiling. No conservative can support that."

- DOGE cuts are not being made permanent (by Congress).

- "We need more strength of character"

- "We cannot sustain these debts forever. The interest on the debt is 1 trillion now."

GO RAND

What say you, Freepers?

They have to pass something.

The Trump plan is to grow the economy so fast that the debt to GNP shrinks from 120% back to 1970’s levels of about 50%.

So they’re not concerned about the absolute number for the debt—only that it slows and eventually stops rising. That may take a couple years. hence the larger debt ceiling.

the trump administration doesn’t want to do anything so drastic that it loses them the 2026 election.

That’s my read. I could be wrong.

It’s principled opposition but yes, it’s the third time in as many weeks. Wow.

If I remember correctly, there is about $7T in Treasury debt that is due for refinancing in 2025.

Any five-year T-bills issued during the COVID fiasco had interest rates as low as 0.5%. As these come due, they are being refinanced at rates 13 times higher.

I wonder if Sen. Paul has sat down and done the math on this.

I was just saying this yesterday. Trump wants to leave office with a $50 trillion economy and a debt to equity ratio of 50%.

the trump administration doesn’t want to do anything so drastic that it loses them the 2026 election.

Honestly, that is no different than the reasoning of every other politician who refuses to tackle the debt - they're concerned the necessary cuts would cost their side votes/support in the next election.

Apparently, Trump is no different.

Sorry — the 2020 rates for 5-Year Treasuries was about 0.3%.

I did not give you Trump’s reasoning. I gave you my reasoning and imputed that to Trump.

So I am no different from any other politician.

Trump is demonstrably not like other politicians.

That’s why he runs circles around the democrats. That’s why every time the democrats open their mouths, they curse themselves.

Great post!

While I respect Rand Paul, he is not seeing the forest for the trees imo.

The usual motion sickness moaning coming from the back seat with expert stunt driver Trump at the wheel.

I say someone should get Rand Paul on the record on whether or not he supports ending the use of baseline budgeting.

Rand up to his usual Kabuki theatre.

The debt ceiling is a mechanism for the left to extract $ for their graft and pet projects. These debt ceiling showdowns have never & will never generate meaningful spending cuts. Trump is the adult in the room.

To change the status quo there have to be changes to business as usual. It takes money to institute efficiencies and save $ down the road. Removing illegal aliens $, finding & eliminating waste, fraud, & abuse $, reversing the destruction of the armed forces $, upgrading/replacing aging infrastructures & computing systems including air traffic control $, fighting the legal battles to remove DEI, remove birthright citizenship, get illegals off of Government paid free services $.

Each of those things and many more will make America more efficient $ decrease spending in the not too distant future. Trump is working successfully on bringing in investments & jobs, decreasing regulations, reducing taxes. These changes will increase the tax base and American prosperity. Trump’s plan to revitalize America is sound and the only real plan in town. The money will be well spent because the result will be a balanced budget and progress paying down the US debt in a relatively short term.

Rand Paul and his ilk act like toddlers who cover their eyes and scream that the only way for=ward is the same failed path. Listening to their siren call only keeps America on the spiraling path to default and economic destruction.

It is obscene.

No cutting of the green energy and other Biden stuff. Taxpayer funding of sex change operations for adults. No incorporation of the DOGE and associated cuts.

Johnson is scum.

The Democrats support party over principal and politicians over policy. This is why they are always caught looking stupid and contradicting themselves.

That is not something that thinking people are supposed to.

Rand is right. Massie is right. Tucker is right.

America First- over party, politicians, corporations, foreign “allies”, etc...
