People who pay more in taxes could be less likely to die from cancer.
The link was revealed in a new study published in JAMA Network Open, which aimed to explore how state-level tax revenue impacts cancer screenings and mortality in the U.S.
Researchers from The Ohio State University, Emory University in Georgia and the University of Verona in Italy analyzed 1,150 state-years of tax data over a 23-year period, between 1997 and 2019. (A state-year refers to one year of data from one state.)
They also reviewed population-level cancer screening rates and cancer-related deaths from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) databases.
The states with higher tax income were found to have increased cancer screening rates and decreased cancer mortality rates, the researchers found.
For each $1,000 increase in tax revenue per capita, the population had a 1.61% increase in colorectal cancer screening, a 2.17% increase in breast cancer screening and a 0.72% increase in cervical cancer screening rate, the research showed.
Among those who had cancerous tumors, each $1,000 increase in tax revenue per capita was linked to up to 4% decreased death rates among White patients. The same reduced risk was not found for racial and ethnic minority populations, according to the study.z
"State-level tax policy is an underappreciated social determinant of health that may improve cancer screening and mortality rates," the researchers wrote.

Coincidence is causation.
As we all know.
People who pay more in taxes earn more and can afford doctors visits.
The taxes don’t make people less likely to succumb to illness, their earnings and the ability to get medical care do.
Captain Obvious weeps for our country.
Clearly, if I pay a 1,000% tax, it will expiate the tax gods, and I’ll be cancer free forever!
Were these simply wealthier states? Did they control for that? It would hardly be a surprise that places that are wealthier would have a higher percentage of people who can afford better medical care.
People who pay more in taxes could be less likely to die from cancer.
Now do cars. People who drive more expensive cars...etc.
So, how much tax money went into doing this study?
Obviously, people who pay higher tax rates are more likely to have a healthier lifestyle:
better diet,
safer cars,
less drugs,
less dangerous behavior.
This is a silly study.
Based on this study, those with exotic cars are less likely to get cancer than those who can’t afford a bike.
Wonder who paid for this epiphany?
It only rains when it is cloudy study coming next.
Strumming is all this is
Sowing discord.
It is what the left does when they have ( got ) nothing.
I was thinking NOT more expensive cars but FASTER cars. where the Best way to avoid cancer altogether is speed!
The same reduced risk was not found for racial and ethnic minority populations, according to the study.
........
Of course not.
Well yeah that was the point, along with skin melatonin content. Whites fair better than blacks. It’s all your fault whitey that black people die earlier.
No shucks, Sherlock.
Then the half of the population that pays little to no tax should kick in a little more. Science, you know.
EC
I agree this is a silly study.
Wealthy people tend to take care of themselves better, physically.
When I go to Walmart, almost everyone there is fat.
When I go to the country club, almost everyone there is thin and fit.
It’s a “class” (not that country club people are better, but skew wealthy, for how I am using “class” here) thing to be thin and fit.
It’s also why Gucci clothes (or whatever) tend to stop at size 8 or so.
If citizens pay a 100% tax rate will cancer be eradicated?
What a BS excuse to increase taxes.
No sale.
While you’re being audited, the IRS can also look for any intestinal polyps.
Yes, good points.
It’s also a matter of intelligence. Smarter people usually better understand the pitfalls of bad diet and lifestyle than dumber people. A crappy diet is, to my mind, the main component of chronic disease. I believe RFK,jr. feels the same.
And smarter people usually can make more money. And thus pay more in taxes.
