I saw something on TV here which reminded people the Royals live / hang out in various palaces and there are quite a few of them in England!
It's amazing when you think about it they live quite ostentatiously far beyond most people in huge palaces (or estates), in huge grounds (lol).
Is any of it overly necessary ? It really is good to be King.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Perhaps such people should engage themselves in a more useful manner.
Needlepoint is nice.
I just wonder about maintenance costs and what not
Meh, let them have it. I’ll take my comfortable house over that 10 times out of 10.
It seemed whacky to me but I have known enough British people from different walks of life and different politics and they like the history and continuity and traditions and culture of their royalty, so I accept that it is their thing and fits them.
It works for them.
My first reaction too was WGAS?? I thought we fought a war to be independent of caring about this.
DENNIS: What I object to is that you automatically treat me like an inferior!
ARTHUR: Well, I am King!
DENNIS: Oh, King, eh, very nice. And how d'you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers! By 'anging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. If there's ever going to be any progress with the--
WOMAN: Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here. Oh! How d'you do?
ARTHUR: How do you do, good lady? I am Arthur, King of the Britons. Who's castle is that?
WOMAN: King of the who?
ARTHUR: The Britons.
WOMAN: Who are the Britons?
ARTHUR: Well, we all are. We are all Britons, and I am your king.
WOMAN: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective.
DENNIS: You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship: a self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes--
Bloody peasant!
The British propaganda has brainwashed them.
The elites do propaganda because it works.
Life would be so easy to understand if every complex human and cultural thing could be explained by simple minded conspiracies.
It is not a “conspiracy” to claim the BBC pushes pro royal propaganda.
It only requires an IQ above room temperature to notice.
‘Cause tourists are money!
I really don't think so. He doesn't seem to have any real power, or at least he doesn't use it. He can't go down to the pub and have a few pints with the lads and watch football or cricket. He really can't go anywhere without it becoming a spectacle with paparazzi snapping pictures constantly. And I'd be a lot of those old manner houses are cold and drafty.
I would not want to live the life of a royal for any amount of money.
I know. It seems like it would cost a fortune to maintain those estates.
However, re the "Downton Abbey" series: I saw a story that said a man, his wife, and only one domestic help person now live in the house. They got a lot of TV money, but it still seems it would take a lot more people to maintain the place.
You explain away the British fondness and support for their Royalty as merely the workings of BBC biased propaganda, it must be nice to believe in such simple conspiracies to explain every enduring complex human and cultural thing.
“”””I would not want to live the life of a royal for any amount of money.””””
You could watch Elizabeth and see that it was a job, and a role, lifestyle, and job for professionals.
Being a wild rock star would be better.
“Every enduring complex human and cultural thing” is not born ex nihilo and kept alive without tender loving care.
It needs nurturing from generation to generation aka propaganda.
You have your simple minded explanation, the BBC did it.
