I just saw between 25 and 50 planes flying at high altitude directly east over Durham NC, all were in a perfect straight line with lights on.
VANITY
Posted on 04/29/2025 6:23:55 PM PDT by tired&retired
They made no sound, left no visable trail, and traveled from the western horizon to the eastern horizon.
I thought it was unusual, so I pointed it out to a Durhan Police Officer standing near me, and he thought so too.
They appeared to be very close in line, but it was hard to tell at that altitude.
Any ideas?
How could they fly in a straight line without massive turbulence?

That’s NOT a small number of planes. What’s your best guess? Did you pull out your cell phone and get a picture?

Where I live in Memphis, that's just FedEx arrivals with only two mile separation. It's a pretty cool sight when the weather and night sky is just right. A 50 mile long wagon train. All on the localizer, then descending at the outer marker one at a time. The middle marker, (Gear Drops and flaps) is only about a half mile from my house. Full sloppy and slow.
Another observation. After the disaster with the Blackhawk-Airline mid-air with the Pentagon's very own shuttle service flights for big-wigs has drawn scrutiny, the helicopter traffic for med-evac air ambulance and other helicopter traffic has dropped down so low I can see the pilots faces. Apparently close attention at ATC is being paid to incursions into flight paths and glideslope.

I’ve always wanted to see Starlink; but I think there’s too much light pollution here.

After deployment, Starlink satellites typically remain visibly clustered for 1–3 weeks, depending on the batch size, orbit, and SpaceX’s orbit-raising schedule. During this period, they are often reported as a "train" by observers, especially in the first 3–7 days when they are closest together.
Satellites begin separating within hours due to slight differences in release velocity and early thruster firings. They remain close enough to appear as a single string of lights for ~3–7 days, as reported by observers on sites like Heavens-Above or FindStarlink.com. For example, the April 26, 2025, batch (27 satellites) was noted on X as visible as a "train" for ~5 days post-launch in some regions.I'm so thankful I read your post before I saw some...

Good info, certainly explains something I saw a year or two ago in the early a.m. hours. I assumed it was a meteor skipping on the outer edge of the atmosphere like a stone on a lake.

When you see a saucer fly like a comet through the sky,
It's a warning that we'd better mend our ways.
You'd better pray to the Lord when you see
those flying saucers.
It may be the coming of the Judgment Day!
