Horror as father and his two adult children are struck and killed by high-speed Amtrak train

A Pennsylvania family is mourning the loss of their father and his two sons after all three were struck and killed by an Amtrak train in what police called a 'horrific tragedy.'

The family of three were fatally struck by the high-speed Acela train, which can reach speeds of up to 150mph, bound from Boston to Richmond, Virginia, at around 6:10 pm near Bristol Station.

Christopher Cramp, 56, and his two sons, David, 30, and Thomas, 24, were identified as the victims in the tragic incident by friends and family on social media.

Sabrina Gartner, posted about losing her father and two brothers on Facebook, she wrote: 'Losing the three of you is crazy. Forever loved and will be missed!'

They were spotted as Bristol Borough police responded to reports of people on the tracks at Beaver and Prospect streets just before 6pm.

Police were walking up onto the rail line to remove them from the tracks when they saw all three people struck by the train, Police Chief Joe Moors said at a press conference on Thursday night.

'When our officers arrived, the sergeant was starting to head up to the subjects up on the railroad tracks when an Acela high-speed train traveling southbound towards Philadelphia struck all three subjects that were up on the track,' Moors said, according to WHYY.

Moors added that the tracks would be closed for 'several hours' while an investigation took place into the 'horrific tragedy'.

The father and older son were trying to help the younger son who was having a mental heath breakdown and trying to kill himself.

Amtrak's Acela is their fastest train at 150mph, these guys never had a chance.

Pray for their families and pray for the Engineer of the train. U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) or dial 988 on your cell phone

Suicide is an evil heartless decision. Look what it did to this family.

Wow I guess I’m getting old.....my family would never think of mourning through an online post......but as I’ve always heard, people grieve in different ways.

It’s called “mental illness”. The dems should have never done away with the Nervous Hospitals. Methinks this was their plan all along. Just let people off themselves so they are rid of them yet somehow they still vote in November.

I didn’t want to say it but had it been me I would have not been on the tracks with him, but I would have been on the phone with 911.

Also, there is a number you can call say if you are stranded on the train tracks. Just look at each crossing there is a tiny blue sign with an 800 number and code to give them. The dispatcher will stop all trains in that area.

Better yet..read this blog it will help you

If you don’t know the railroad’s number 911 should be able to stop the train but that is faster.

“The father and older son were trying to help the younger son who was having a mental heath breakdown and trying to kill himself.”

My God that is so heartbreaking. We personally know mental health issues and the efforts family will go to save the afflicted.

“Pray for their families and pray for the Engineer of the train.” — Yes, indeed.

The one son was obviously determined to end it all. Most likely, the father and other son thought they would be able to jump out of the way at the last second, but a 150-mph train is going to come upon you faster than you think.

The Netherlands has a cure for those who want to commit suicide.

They kill them.

Not an easy decision. When seconds count, the police and all other responders are minutes away.

The brother and father made the best decision they could, it wasn't enough.

Seems like they ought have drop-down gates (AKA smashboards) at all crossings where 150 mph trains fly by.

150 mph is not something you can react to quickly enough.

People are used to 50 mph trains, but not 150 mph.

There will be more of these accidents until all the 150 mph crossings have gates.

So they were trying to pull him off the tracks and he was resisting?

Had the father and sane young man jumped off the tracks and they saw their brother/son get hit by the train, that would have been very hard to get over. If the father and son had perished going into a burning building to save their son/brother, I wonder if the reaction would be different.

My late brother in law was a train driver. He told me he had 2 people commit suicide in front of his train. He said he knew another that had 10 people commit suicide in front of him. That guy couldn’t live with it any longer and he too committed suicide.

He said the worst part is he could see the people just sitting next to the track waiting for the train and there’s nothing they can do about it.
