I didn’t want to say it but had it been me I would have not been on the tracks with him, but I would have been on the phone with 911.
Also, there is a number you can call say if you are stranded on the train tracks. Just look at each crossing there is a tiny blue sign with an 800 number and code to give them. The dispatcher will stop all trains in that area.

If you don’t know the railroad’s number 911 should be able to stop the train but that is faster.
