The Trump administration is shutting down EV chargers at all federal government buildings and is also expected to sell off the General Services Administration‘s (GSA) newly bought EVs.
GSA, which manages all federal government-owned buildings, also operates the federal buildings’ EV chargers. Federally owned EVs and federal employee-owned personal EVs are charged on those 8,000 charging ports.
The Verge reports it’s been told by a source that plans will be officially announced internally next week, and it’s seen an email that GSA has already sent to regional offices about the plans:
“As GSA has worked to align with the current administration, we have received direction that all GSA-owned charging stations are not mission-critical.”
The GSA is working on the timing of canceling current network contracts that keep the EV chargers operational. Once those contracts are canceled, the stations will be taken out of service and “turned off at the breaker,” the email reads. Other chargers will be turned off starting next week.
“Neither Government Owned Vehicles nor Privately Owned Vehicles will be able to charge at these charging stations once they’re out of service.”
Colorado Public Radio first reported yesterday that it had seen the email that was sent to the Denver Federal Center, which has 22 EV charging stations at 11 locations.

Nah she’s drunk somewhere
The Dems tore down parts of the wall and sold wall material at a discount to make it more difficult to re-start these programs. Ditto pipelines.
Tear that crazy shit out by the roots.
I would go further and say they need to pay more.
cost of the electric, cost of upkeep of the charging stations, any permits or inspections annually, repair parts may become hard to get soon, since Trump agenda is to switch country away from EV stuff.
For the number of people using them, it’s a lot of expense.
Or bureaucrats can find a way to do it that generates revenue for the Treasury.
If those chargers generate net profit, I have no problem with the dang things.
Nancy Pelosi is definitely quiet. Could be the hip fracture recovery isn’t going well. She will go the way of Diane Feinstein and John McCain.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I agree. The charging station infrastructure is there. Charge a fee for employees to use the stations. Do not build any more stations.
Nice to know she did not think she was above the rules!
That’s what I was thinking. For private users, they just pay for use. For government users, they just charge whatever account is normally used for such things. It would be similar to a pay-for-use parking garage.
Unless there was a mechanism to levy charging fees on personal vehicles, this should be reported to the IRS as income.
While you get mileage payments for official travel with your personal vehicle, commuting to your regular duty station isn’t refundable.
Perfect place for OPM/DOGE to look for a “claw-back” (IRS audits anyone?).
In our town, EV charger is free. Us “no EV ever” folks have to pay for the gas to fill our car.
One can imagine some sort of ‘incentive’ program, supported by taxes, to effectively allow free charging by gov employees. Just speculation on my part.
Stop mandating EV School Buses.
No free EV ride on taxpayers. Pay your own way. Like I do!
I agree. I'm all-of-the-above for energy, but none-of-the-above for subsidizing it.
Not the big, modern windmills that chop up birds and then are nearly impossible to dispose of reasonably when they inevitably underperform expectations/promises.
Yes. Those same federal buildins do not supply gas pumps for the regular cars.
For EVs to be a true success, they need infrastructure the private sector builds because there is a good ROI for the private sector to do it. Any government subsidized system is going to be weak in terms of economic efficiency, without the subsidies, become soft and dependent on the subsidies and never become viable on their own.
Great way of looking at the event. She also did not send a staff member to move her car.
You just know that somehow corrupt arrogant privileged government employees got to use these for “free”, screwing the taxpayer citizens even more.
My thought too. Charge for the power at a minimum, charge for the installation and upkeep preferably.
No free power.
