Even if they knock out Eric Adams, the far left has no chance of winning the mayoralty
NY Post ^ | 2/14/25 | Post Editorial Board

New York lefties are howling for Mayor Eric Adams’ blood, insisting he sold his soul to President Donald Trump to avoid federal prosecution; it’s a great way to distract from progressives’ own lack of answers to the city’s problem.

AOC, state Senate No. 2 Mike Gianaris, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and the whole pack of Democratic mayoral wannabes all insist that only an imagined corrupt bargain can explain why the Justice Department ordered charges against Adams dropped, and why the mayor isn’t fighting tooth-and-nail against ICE’s efforts to catch and deport violent criminal “asylum seekers.”

Never mind that Justice honchos are clear that 1) They see the decisions to investigate and prosecute Adams as the product of Team Biden’s politicization of Justice, 2) continued prosecution now can only interfere with the feds’ push to get those worst-of-the-worst illegal migrants off the streets and out of the country.

Yes, a pack of prosecutors resigned in protest over the order, furious that their work (and what they figured would be a career-boosting success) might go for nothing.

But there’s a long list of reasons why Gov. Kathy Hochul has only promised to consider removing Adams.

First, the “devil’s bargain” claims are merely claims, and from Adams’ political opponents; she really shouldn’t sideline a democratically elected mayor who hasn’t actually done anything off-color.

Second, the public advocate would take over — and Williams (while a fine fellow personally) is about as far left as they come.

Third, if Adams is effectively forced out of running for re-election, ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo is all but guaranteed to enter the race and quickly lap the field.

One more time: Adams won the top job in 2021 by promising to restore public safety and protect New Yorkers’ quality of life.

Hopefully DOGE/DOJ has Bragg with his fingers in USAID or say Ukraine and it is just a matter of time, you’d think some of the NY/NYC Never Trumpers are under the microscope for criminal activity.

We all know the DOJ wants to get Adams to turn, and his Testimony will shred NY's corruption teams and TDS-infested Dem's stooges in Federal Court.

NONE of them got the Pre-Emptive Pardons from Biden (via whoever dictated it to him).

Does anyone on the Post Editorial Board realize that Cuomo is hated in New York because he murdered so many frail elderly patients in nursing homes by forcing active Covid patients into their rooms. Do they think people will forgive and forget that he murdered their grandparents to get more money from the federal government? Does anyone on the Post Editorial Board think Trump is going to stand by and not pour in whatever is necessary to to stop Cuomo who only wants to be mayor to have a platform to run for POTUS in 2028 and thus will be a major obstacle to MAGA in the biggest city in America?

“Even if they knock out Eric Adams, the far left has no chance of winning the mayoralty”

There is little daylight between Eric Adams and the “Far Left.

The left can’t help themselves, wrong side of all 80/20 issues, and the last election turned states like NJ and NY to borderline swing states.

Keep pushing left, I support you 😎🇺🇸

Agreed Adams has out his finger in the wind, and changed course, but mostly he has done this to save his own skin

They lost Adams when they retaliated for his noting that the illegals were ruining NYC by announcing a corruption investigation for stuff much pettier than the routine corruption of most if not all Democrat officials in NY.

If/When it comes o federal curt cases against the other NY officials for corruption it is nice to have a pol who will rat out the others if only because he is trying to get his feet out of the muck before it sucks him down.

The standard of “far left” is of course different in NYC than is most of the country.

By the standards of most of the country, Eric Adams is far left.

But NYC is what it is, and the headline is correct.

If they knock out Adams, it will most likely be former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo and the Working Families Party hate each other. The (failed) objective of Cuomo’s change of New York’s ballot access laws was to knock the WFP off the ballot. (It didn’t work — prominent Dems like Schumer asked people to vote for Biden on the WFP line, then vote het Democrat line.)

If the WFP decides to run its own candidate against Cuomo, that could change the dynamic.

Especially if, as rumored, Adams switches parties and runs as a Republican.

Adams may be guilty. I don’t know. But whatever hte circumstances, they only chose to indict after he deviated from the Party Line.

The same is true of Menendez. The Democrats knew for a long time that Menendez was crooked, but only chose to prosecute after he criticized their policies on Cuba and Iran.

But the Republicans are weaponizing justice.
