Failing elevators at a veterans hospital in Miami have injured at least a dozen people over two years, according to a nurses’ union that called the lifts a “death trap.”
The elevators at the Miami VA Medical Center tend to suddenly drop several floors, creating a danger for injured and ill patients, according to union officials.
All of the main elevators in the 12-story hospital have had issues flagged during a 2023 assessment obtained by the Herald.
The building, which has been standing for almost six decades, has been plagued with structural issues for years including problems with its air-conditioning and roof leaks, according to employees.
The VA had previously asserted that all the issues were resolved, but some hospital employees are still doubtful and wary of the elevators for their own sake and also the safety of their patients.

In a recent meeting, VA management officials assured employees that they are addressing the long list of safety concerns. Of the fixes in the works, the officials claimed that they have instructed deliverers to not put pallet jacks in some elevators that can only handle a certain weight

this really is a disgrace. How can Dems justify spending all this money on illegals when American citizens are not taken care of by those that should be doing it. It makes me angry

Dems don’t justify it. They’re all getting fired. Not by Trump. But by we who hired him
I have some claustrophobia from my sub days. Don’t like elevators that act up!
One of the biggest lies in medicine is “Our VA is a good VA.”..
I passed this story along to my veterans organization, PVA.ORG , so they are aware.
Thank you for your service. When I express my gratitude for such service, it’s because you and so many others went through something that I never could have tolerated...especially sub service!

Some problems have to be fixed immediately, no matter what you have to do or cut from someplace else in the hospital.
Never get into an elevator with old people. Especially right after lunch...................🙄
Addressing the problem? No. That should be fixed the problem. Aren’t elevators subject to inspection? If so, then this should have been flagged, shut down and immediately fixed and inspected again. No one does their job anymore. It’s no wonder the whole country is falling apart.

Here we go, another example of the needs of our veterans being ignored.
DEI elevator maintenance crews hard at work.
Elevator inspections are the responsibility of the local city government. But, this is Miami, so the local inspections are run by entrenched democrat party unions.
The only time I’ve seen one act up was when we were on vacation in Russia as a kid. I pushed the button to go up to our hotel room and I guess the kitchen pushed the down button - there was a window. Then someone above pushed the up. So, it was up down up down up down and stopping between floors for several minutes. Good thing its brakes were working.
LIB losers despise Veterans, believing they are chumps and suckers. That is pathetic. Fire the incompetent losers in charge of that hospital.
Elevators have several ingenious safety mechanisms. How can this happen? Are they not being inspected?
“I have some claustrophobia from my sub days. Don’t like elevators that act up!”
Same with me. I have some claustrophobia from working in ICBM launch tubes. Took years to get me on a rampway into an aircraft.
Maybe it’s time to change elevator companies.
One of the two Lexington (KY) VA elevators that take you upstairs to the main lobby from parking garage below is often not working. It’s not dangerous, just annoying because the wait times become so long.
The last time they said parts were on order but it took months. I kept asking if the parts came from Jupiter or Mars.
These people need to be found and arrested.
My husband went to the VA a week ago for his checkup and they informed him that medical equipment for his SRI that we had been paying for out of pocket for over a decade was available there.
Just out of the blue. No explanation. "We now will provide these items to you." On one hand, nice. On the other hand what changed since last year?
