Lowering Prices and Helping the Unemployed

Posted on 02/08/2025 1:14:52 PM PST by Rocky Mountain Wild Turkey

My thoughts on Trump.

I understand has to clean out the barn of 4 years (or more) before he can really do anything about the economy for inflation and the unemployment (layoffs) still occurring.

All the right people are wailing and gnashing teeth. I love this.

However, when do you think Trump will really start to tackle inflation, chronic unemployment, and freeing up the economy as aggressively as he has with his Executive Orders? How much sh*t needs to be cleaned out of the barn?

Just a thought ....

Can’t do anything about inflation without cutting down the deficit.

Congress should increase the funds and otherwise make it easier, but they also need to go after working illegals while still chasing down the violent ones. That’s the other root to taming inflation and unemployment.

Ask Elon “Hercules” Musk. He’s the one using AI like Alpheus and Peneus to clean out the US Government Augean stables of all its corruption horse$71t.

These issues will be more manageable after Trump effectively uses Musk and DOGE to cut fraud and waste.

Elon “Hercules” Musk [is] the one usng AI like Alpheus and Peneus to clean out the US Government Augean stables
. . . but the mere fact that Musk’s efforts are obviously credible will help even before his improvements are accomplished facts.

The market, and the Fed, are probably beginning to react already.

Inflation is largely where it is because of the exact crap DOGE has been uncovering.

Agreed.

And, the complete shutdown of printing money (and sending it to foreign lands) will curb inflation, of course.

Inflation is directly associated with government spending. So that is going to take a while.

Second, the cost of food is related to three things: Production and delivery. Scarcity. And labor.

Production is hampered by fertilizer that is sky high because of the war in Ukraine. Also, the price of fuel is high.

Lower fertilizer quality/use causes smaller products. Look at your produce: it is small and gross compared to what it was 5 years ago. That is your poor quality fertilizer. /this is a direct result of the lack f Ukrainian fertilizer on the world market.

Obviously labor is an issue on producing anything. It’s expensive and becoming scarce.

The economy has been on a tear, except for covid, since 2008. It’s due for a pause.

Cutting 8-10% of the federal workforce is going to have a significant impact on the employment rates and economy. Imagine if you own the coffee shop next to a government facility. If the employment count drops 10%, what is that going to do to your company.

We all agree that stuff needs to change. And change is good. But getting from A to B is going to hurt. Decide today where to cut your spending before you HAVE to.

chronic unemployment

Short-term, a lot of government bureaucrats will be out looking for employment. Frankly, that will increase chronic unemployment.

It will take time, but deporting illegals, and having tariffs in place to encourage re-shoring of manufacturing, will create tons of opportunities for US employment. But that's not going to get resolved in a month or two.

And, US citizens coming out and getting these jobs is likely to require decent (e.g. Higher) wages. So that isn't going to help inflation.

Economics is complicated and there are no "solutions", there are only "trade-offs". I say that 1) smaller government 2) fewer regulations 3) more jobs for US citizens and 4) higher wages will all lead to better lives for just about everyone. Yes, there will be some downsides. It's always a trade-off. But we will get to a better place.

You ask an interesting question, I think.

The Green Energy Scam returned with a vengeance after Trump gave us oil exportation and energy independence, last time.

I would credit Trump’s energy policies for super low inflation and unemployment. But, all of this was reversed, and very easily, by the Deep State.

Maybe fixing energy problems is too temporary, though it is the root problem, I believe, of the subjects you ask. I wonder if Trump will be able to get around to it, too, in only 4 years. What we are seeing now, though, may be the only way for any fix to last.

My goodness, RMWT, have you been asleep for the past few weeks? He has been able to do more in a few weeks than Joe the demented did in four years. Please give him some time. He never promised overnight success. In some cases he has already said that ‘It will take a while.’

There is a shift in the economy that people cannot comprehend. The human aspect of work will be phased out in many sectors. Why do you think tech bros aligned with Trump? The advancements in tech is so fast that many areas of human work will be lessened.

Deflation is coming to wages and other areas. That is point of the billions and billions in spending by companies to tech advancements; eliminate costs.

We have our government joining forces will powerful groups that want to eliminate human work, good luck. That is your deflationary effect.

You are the first one I’ve seen, besides myself, to make the link between a scarcity of fertilizer and lower crop yields with resulting higher prices. But, unfortunately, I think it will take at least another year or two before increased domestic oil production with increased domestic fertilizer will have much impact on agricultural production. Farmers typically apply fertilizer in the fall so let’s hope domestic fertilizer producers ramp up production ASAP!

There is, in some sectors ... but I'm still seeing mostly very low wage/per hour jobs ... and a lot of PT vs. FT.

I think it is time to really promote solo-prenuership and learn skills that implements and manages AI ... or focus on careers that AI can't really "replace" in the next 50 years.
