More than 150 female inmates raped and burned to death during Goma jailbreak in DRC

More than 150 female prisoners were raped and burned to death during a jailbreak last week when fleeing male inmates set fire to a prison in Goma, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a United Nations spokesperson has said.

UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Seif Magango told CNN that most of the 165 female prisoners who were raped by escaping male inmates died in the fire.

Between nine and 13 female inmates, “all of whom had also been raped,” survived the blaze, Magango added, citing a judicial source in the DRC.

“We did not independently verify the judicial official’s report ourselves, but we do consider his account to be credible,” Magango told CNN Thursday.

The male inmates, some of whom were killed by prison guards, plotted a mass escape on January 27 as the M23 rebel alliance battled with Congolese forces in Goma over control of the city, the UN-sponsored Radio Okapi reported Monday.

More than 4,000 detainees fled the Muzenze prison that day, it added, stating that the facility was now “completely empty” and left in ruins.

DRC communications minister Patrick Muyaya confirmed the rape of the 165 women, telling CNN Wednesday that “the government condemns with the greatest energy this barbaric crime.”

Calling it a “dark continent” is not hyperbole.

+++++++++++++

I’m sure the evil Trump just cancelled a USAID program which triggered the uprising. Yeah, that’s it. Maybe Axlerod can try this next.

That sounds absolutely hellish. Like something that may have happened long, long ago, before British and Dutch invaders
brought a touch of civilization to the darkest of Africa.

Something B’wana Don would have described to us while on his TV show.
Sadly, when it comes to most areas of Africa, the old French proverb applies: “Plus ca change, plus c’est la mem chose!”
(The more things change, the more they stay the same!”

Unfortunately for the Congo, the British were not the ones who introduced the benefits of civilization.

Was it the French? I forget how globally influential France used to be.

‘Bury them alive!’: White South Africans fear for their future as horrific farm attacks escalate

NEARLY every day, horrific acts of rape, torture and murder are carried out on a community under siege. WARNING: Graphic.

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT

LAST month, British woman Sue Howarth and her husband Robert Lynn were woken at 2am by three men breaking into a window of their remote farm in Dullstroom, a small town in the northeast of South Africa, about 240km from the nearest capital city.

The couple, who had lived in the area for 20 years, were tied up, stabbed, and tortured with a blowtorch for several hours. The masked men stuffed a plastic bag down Mrs Howarth’s throat, and attempted to strangle her husband with a bag around his neck.

The couple were bundled into their own truck, still in their pyjamas, and driven to a roadside where they were shot. Mrs Howarth, 64, a former pharmaceutical company executive, was shot twice in the head. Mr Lynn, 66, was shot in the neck.

Miraculously he survived, and managed to flag down a passer-by early on Sunday morning. Mrs Howarth, who police said was “unrecognisable” from her injuries, had multiple skull fractures, gunshot wounds and “horrific” burns to her breasts.

“Sue was discovered amongst some trees, lying in a ditch,” writes Jana Boshoff, reporter for the local Middelburg Observer newspaper. “Her rescuers managed to find her by following her groans of pain and then noticing drag marks from the road into the field.

“Her head was covered with a towel. Her eyes were swollen shut. She was partially clothed with just scraps of her shirt remaining. Her breasts and upper body was bloody. The plastic bag, shoved down her throat, took some effort to remove because her jaw was clamped down tightly...

They got whatever the French were offering. The African nations that fare best were the British colonized ones.

Belgium, IIRC. The Belgians were not nice people administering their colony.

What sick bunch of animals those murderers are. That man has to live out his final days remembering what happened to his wife.

No way in hell will I go to SA. Don’t care what people say about the ‘nice parts’.
