CIENTISTS FIRST SHOWED TELEPORTATION WAS POSSIBLE back in 1993, when a team from IBM published a paper about teleporting a quantum state—rather than just an object—in the journal Physical Review Letters.

The idea behind the Star Trek transporter was that Roddenberry didn’t have the budget for shots of the Enterprise landing and taking off from a planet every week. It was a much cheaper work around.
It’s one thing to quantum teleport a single photon—which is all they’ve accomplished so far. It’s another thing entirely to teleport matter, let alone a whole human being. Maybe in 10,000 more years of advancement.
Just because they can doesn’t mean they should.
Every car, truck and airplane company on earth would immediately go bankrupt...............
There were often BIG PROBLEMS with that system. Sometimes it landed them in the wrong universe, other times it landed them in solid matter, and other times it simply didn’t work.
But it was 60 years ago and hopefully they got most of the bugs out by now (assuming they didn’t instead get consumed by DEI).
Flotsam and jetsam.
Gene Rodenberry didn’t have enough money to build a mock shuttlecraft for the first pilot episode. So he used a comparatively cheap camera trick instead to show them teleporting to and from the planet surface. It wasn’t until episode 16 (The Galileo Seven) that they had a shuttlecraft built out of plywood. And it wasn’t until season 3 episode 22 (The Savage Curtain) that Captain Kirk explained exactly how transporting worked. A person is completely converted into energy (annihilation is the scientific term) which is beamed to the other location and then reassembled. This violates the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principal, however, which is why in TNG the transporter system had to include a “Heisenberg Compensator”.
They should start with a dead body, then experiment with that for a spell. Any primate will do, so long as that animal is fully dead.
AOC would be a good candidate ... if it goes wrong, what the heck ... no loss.
You mean Adam Schiff has agreed to be a test subject at Elon Musks Quantum Physics first transmission test?
You mean Musk is sending him straight to hell?
I’d pay to see that.
So Popular Mechanics has gone wacko.
Perhaps they can teleport matter, although I have my doubts, but if that were the case, they would not be able to teleport the spirit and consequently the feelings.
Quantum Jelly, made from real people!
LOL
Kirk will still be a bad, but fun actor to watch :)
Sulu will look crazy in ANY universe!!
What is SO GOOD about this life that so many want to live it forever?
Am I missing something? :)
Life is tough...and it doesn’t get easier as one gets older, usually.
God set it up JUST RIGHT...I’d rather not tinker.
This is all just fantasy. Would you still have a soul if you were transported? And on the flip side, if you came out normal on the other side then would that be proof that there is no soul. And if you could buffer someone then doesn’t that mean that you produce living copies of them? Its all just nonsense in reality.
God beat you to it.
The interesting thing is Star Trek got correct the part of the original body being completely destroyed.
We need to send Mr. Science himself to see if this works. Dr. Fauchi is all about using live test subjects and he is science so who could be better.
Scientists have been able to “teleport” the “information” of a single photon of light over the distance of a number of feet, even in the presence of large numbers of other photons that might compromise the “information”. Note that they don’t “teleport” the photon, just its “information”, though that theoretically can be used to create a photon that is identical to the first.
It’s just a bit more complicated to teleport, and reassemble a living human, and get all the pieces (including historical memory) in exactly the right places.
