President Donald Trump's administration is offering federal workers the chance to take a "deferred resignation," which would mean they agree now to resign but get paid through September.
A senior administration official told NBC News that they expect 5%-10% of the federal workforce to quit, which, they estimate, could lead to around $100 billion in savings.

How many want to hire a person whose entire career has been to work for the federal government?
If I’m wearing their shoes, I’ll be willing to bet there will be a lot of job openings in the fall, maybe especially if I’m specialized or good at what I do, like a VA doctor or nurse.
With all the Obamaroids and Biden diaper load useless idiots in place or needing something thy call work, how big is the bag in the real world that can hold them? The MSM has been dumping them right and left and even corporations are questioning why these doorstops are employed with them. The battle royale of snowflakes has begun and it’s only started.
There may be plenty of colleges and universities that aren’t bloated enough. Or the State Government.
There will also be a sizeable contingent of these workers that want to leave anyways because they hate Trump’s policies. Now those workers will be incentivized.
I expected this. I also expect to be encouraged to depart since I’m eligible to retire.
None of this bothers me; I understand the big picture. My coworkers are freaking out a little.
Typical Peanut Gallery response.😂
+1👍
EXCEPT we at investment banks had/have REAL skills to offer the world and would find other jobs.
Who’s gonna hire some schlep from the fed gov?
Unless blue states are hiring for nonsense positions?
Happens ALL the time in the private sector.
Why would they give up a job that pays better with more bennies and where they are not held accountable when they accomplish nothing?
All the whiners not wanting to go to office now have option to sit home for 8 months with pay!
The idea behind this is that most people know the value of their job and take a package rather than risk getting nothing being laid off. For some it is an opportunity. It is brutal but happens all the time in a corpocracy.
Way easier to induce retirement than it is to fire a federal employee. Cheaper too. Plus, one hopes many rat sympathizers will decide to get their hat instead of working for Trump. Which would mean greater efficiency and less passive resistance..
I was under the impression this buyout is o ly for the ones who want tonwork remotely and don’t want to come into the office. Am I wrong?
Years ago, my brother worked down at the Chicago Board of Trade. He was about to give hisb2 week notice and start a new business as a contractor. He got called up from the floor by his boss and told they’re going to let him go, but gave him a years salary. He acted all sad and left. He was the happiest guy you ever saw.
I thought so too. Lots of confusing things reported. Lots of it intentional.
During the many oilfield downturns some made a killing on buyouts taking one, finding work at the next, a target picked likely to eventually offer a buyout, and getting another package. It did haopen. The 80s were crazy.
My brother just got his email. 8 months pay.
