US President Joe Biden directed that January 9 will be a national day of mourning throughout the United States for former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.
"I call on the American people to assemble on that day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President James Earl Carter," Biden said in a statement...

BTTT
Yeah, he served in uniform and he did good works in his later life. But he was overall a lousy president and his politics then and after were terrible IMO.
May his generally well-intentioned but woefully misguided soul rest in peace. I'm glad he's no longer consuming oxygen, so I'll skip mourning also.
The best thing about Carter - he had zero SCOTUS picks - the only President in the 20th century without being able to nominate any Justice.
ok. he’s gone. yes, he was a historic sub driver.
yes, he was a truck of a president.
i say ...NEXT!!
I will lust in my heart for a woman in honor of Jimmy Carter.
He was a great patriot, a humanitarian, a loyal friend; provided, of course, he really is dead. — Voltaire
Tonight at dinner my daughter (27) was asking what was so bad about Carter. Extended family regaled her with stories of gas lines, flags at the gas stations showing if they had gas or not, odd-even gas days, 55 MPH maximum, interest rates of 18% and more for a house, etc. Iran hostages, etc.
After listening to it all she said “Sounds like he helped elect Reagan - so that was good!”
Party on the 9th, got it!
I’ll second that!
The Camp David Accords?
I vote a national day of celebration when Joe Biden leaves the Presidency.
“Americans older than that probably only remember the problems of his term in office.”
I remember sitting at the neighbor lady’s fabulous old house overlooking the harbor on Long Island. She was married to a finance guy. I was there to babysit her kids
She was from Italy, escaped the Mussolini reign as a child with her family. She looked like Audrey Hepburn and smoked like a chimney.
She had been a diplomat, had a post at the UN.
She would get on a Jimmy Carter rant. ‘The man is inept!’
All these years later, nothing to add
Bless his soul.
At least Carter lived long enough to see someone even worse than himself as President.
He was a decent man ,but a terrible POTUS. As a President of the U.S.A he gave away the store and put America last. Trump/ Carter ,to ends of the spectrum. “RIP, Jimmy” you sucked off Americas teet long enough.
U.S. — In yet another blow to President-elect Trump, aides have announced that former President Jimmy Carter will also be skipping Trump's inauguration.
Carter joins the growing list of several prominent Democrats who will not be attending Trump's inauguration, a sign of the deep divisions still plaguing the country.
"We are saddened to learn that President Carter will also be skipping the inauguration," said an aide for Trump. "While we are sure Carter has his reasons, Trump looked forward to welcoming every leader to this new chapter. We continue to hope that this next year will be one of healing divisions and coming together."
At publishing time, Biden had announced that he too was dead and would not be attending the inauguration.
Raise a can of Billy Beer to the canal.
He supported legalized abortion.
He supported sodomite "marriage".
He supported a ban on "assault" weapons.
He was against the death penalty.
He believed it was fine to have women pastors.
He supported Obamacare.
He supported Kamala Harris.
He had an inflation rate of 14% in 1980, with a Fed Funds rate of 19%.
He's dead. January 9th will be like any other day. No mourning. No remembrance. No gas lines, thankfully.
There seems to be an inverse relationship between what a politician accomplished and the official hoopla over his funeral. This reminds me of McCain’s body being dragged all over the country, lying in State at the Capitol and seemingly endless tribute funerals. Jimmy Carter was a nasty incompetent - just why will he be one of six Presidents to merit a state funeral?
