Fifty-one-year-old Troy Williams has been arrested in connection with allegedly shooting at officers and also shooting a Georgia State Police K-9, WSB-TV reported on Friday.
State Troopers pulled Williams over for an “obscured license plate” Wednesday. Williams took off after handing a driver’s license to a trooper and a chase ensued.
At some point Williams alleged fired at pursuing officers and then fled into woods on foot. One of Williams’ gunshots allegedly hit K-9 Amor in the leg.

It seems unreasonable to expect even a bad guy to allow a dangerous animal to commit grievous bodily harm upon them just because said animal has a badge when just a few clicks of a point and click interface will save them from painful injury. Just saying.
Alleged criminal. Dogs aren’t big on presumption of innocence.
What if someone shot at and hit your dog?
Should they not be charged with anything?
Well, it wouldn’t be homicide, now, would it?
‘Homicide’ refers to the killing of one human by another.
I doubt anyone has been charged with homicide for shooting a dog, even if it’s a police dog.
Unless they’re left to roast to death in a patrol car. Then it’s a “tragic accident”.

Dogs aren’t people. We had one locally that caught a couple of porcupines while out tracking suspects. I don’t trust its judgement.
That’s horrible; but I don’t see what it has to do with this story.
I don’t see what that has to do with this story.
There is no mention of the dog attacking; and no mention really of the perp deliberately shooting it. According to the article, he was shooting at the police.
You make laws re: dogs as officers for every case, not just this one. I doubt there was any intent by the perp to shoot the dog. Why isn’t it enough to hit him with one charge of attempted murder for each officer there? Again dogs aren’t people. They used to euthanize police dogs at retirement. They can be problematic, behaviorally. They aren’t all Lassie.
I don’t know what he’s been charged with - I haven’t seen the charges delineated.
You seem to be conflating a lot of concerns that aren’t mentioned in the article.
Do you simply believe that police should not use dogs at all?
Harming, or attempting to harm a police dog (or any other dog. really) is and ought to be a crime. It’s not the same as harming, or attempting to harm a police officer. however. Can they spay or neuter anyone on the police force? Probably not. (I said ”can,” not “should.”
I have not said that harming a police dog is ‘the same’ as harming a human officer, and I’m not aware that such is considered as ‘law’ anywhere.
I was just alluding to the fact that K-9s in police departments are often considered fellow ‘officers’ by the people who work with them. Military dogs are often thought of similarly.
I wonder how many people do more time for killing a police dog than they would for manslaughter.
Does it matter?
In many jurisdictions, the K-9 is often ceremoniously "sworn in" as part of the unit, receiving a badge and ID number, signifying their important role in police work.
They will on command. You're obviously ignorant on the use of trained K-9's and their level of their training.
Post the local article, we would like to read it.......Thanks
“How about we put you in place o9f the K9’s”
They might be important, but they’re only dogs not people and not officers. Now we have cops that think that dogs can be officers. They might be intelligent for dogs, but this would be taking DEI to the extreme by making them into police officers. Maybe they could run for political office and you could vote for one of them?
Let’s stop the confusion. People can’t be dogs, dogs can’t be police officers.
I have no idea. I guess you’ll have to research the matter.
