I’m fine with the police using dogs. But, they are dogs. Trained dogs. Wanna call one “officer?” Fine. Wanna pin medals on it? Fine. But it does not have the judgement required for law enforcement. It should be under tight control, as much as possible. They keep them in small-mesh steel cages in the back of their cars for a reason.

Harming, or attempting to harm a police dog (or any other dog. really) is and ought to be a crime. It’s not the same as harming, or attempting to harm a police officer. however. Can they spay or neuter anyone on the police force? Probably not. (I said ”can,” not “should.”

I have not said that harming a police dog is ‘the same’ as harming a human officer, and I’m not aware that such is considered as ‘law’ anywhere.

I was just alluding to the fact that K-9s in police departments are often considered fellow ‘officers’ by the people who work with them. Military dogs are often thought of similarly.
