Musk Announces Plan To Buy MSNBC And Turn It Into A News Network

U.S. — In a dramatic move that could shake up the media industry, Elon Musk has announced his intent to purchase MSNBC and turn the channel into a news network.

Though initially dismissed as an outrageous prank, Musk has remained adamant that he is serious about hiring actual journalists and completely revamping the entire network in order to report real news.

"Admittedly I've been wrong about Musk before, but this is insane," said investor John Stanton. "This would be like buying Taco Bell and turning them all into high-end steakhouses. Doing actual journalism or reading actual news would be a complete paradigm shift."

Despite the naysayers, Musk has received support from several major players in the media industry. "He's already got Joe Rogan and Michael Knowles fighting over who gets to take Rachel Maddow's place," said former MSNBC executive Daniel Montgomery. "Obviously, Knowles has the look. No one is denying that, not even Knowles. What if they really fought over it, though? Rogan would put him out so fast... well, I take that back. Knowles seems kind of squirrely. Man, this is exciting."

At publishing time, Musk had graciously announced that Joe Scarborough could stay on staff as the barista for the company coffee bar.

Hahahahahahahaha!

An underrated movie, IMO...of course, that was during the time when my wife would torture me about wanting to watch movies only because Sandra Bullock was in them!

“Musk sees an opportunity to take a money-losing MSNBC and make a huge profit by turning it into the rarest thing on the planet: a news organization which actually reports the truth.”

Sounds good to me and probably a few million like those of us, who would like real news not B$!

Does anyone remember CNN back in the mid 80’s?

If we had a news station like that now every half hour they would update the Israeli war and the war in Ukraine.

They would also update other conflicts daily.

My wife and I are struck by how difficult it is now to keep up with current events because the news just continues the news stations narrative viewpoint.

Are we mistaken on this?

Its hard to get daily news on what’s happening in England, the riots, the rise of Reform, Little on Russian Victories in Ukraine, or the tangled mess in Israel. Not much on BRICKS or what happening in China—did you know they have men in space? I need to get news from India to find any sort of balance.

Hardly. I cannot bear to watch any of the "news" channels. I get my news from FreeRepublic, and the article sources on the FR threads when they look useful. Video news became impossible many years ago.

Granted FR has a strong conservative slant, but it's up-front and understood. A lot of neutral and left-wing news articles are posted on FR as well, and those threads give me all the "balance" I require.

Thanks. At our ages, my wife and I have noticed we don’t remember things as well as we used to so it is hard to tell if the news from the last decade SUX or if we are misremembering real news coverage from the past.

> At our ages, my wife and I have noticed we don’t remember things as well as we used to...

I hear ya there (I'm almost 73).

> ...so it is hard to tell if the news from the last decade SUX or if we are misremembering real news coverage from the past.

I think there are (at least) two factors in play. First, the lies the news media throws at us these days are much more blatant than in decades past; now they're utterly shameless liars. And second, the rise of alternative sources (primarily the internet) has allowed us to recognize the bias and the lies much better.

In retrospect, the TV news of the 60's and 70's was full of falsehoods, too, especially regarding the Vietnam War, drugs, politics, corruption, etc. But we didn't have much to compare and cross-check it against. Walter Cronkite was God's Own Spokesman, and he told us The Truth, or so we believed.

Now? I trust nothing from the media or the government. I believe nothing they put out. Prior to the rise of AI, the lies were largely human-generated. Now with AI, machines crank out lies at a rate no one can fathom, much less absorb and evaluate. If I try, I can imagine how this ends, but it ain't pretty.
