In a perfect world where I have endless time and energy, I get home every day and whip myself up a delicious 5-star dinner. In another perfect world where I have won the lottery, I pay a chef to do it for me...

BUT I DON'T live in a perfect world, and neither, I'm guessing, do most of you. And since we're all just normal folks trying to do our best when we're tired and hungry, we mustn't overlook the convenience of the humble frozen dinner. You probably shouldn't survive on TV dinners alone, but boy do they come in clutch on a tough day.

Never mind, the side with the Salisbury Steak has to be the garbage side. Here’s the definition from Wiki:

Salisbury steak is a dish originating in the United States and made from a blend of ground beef and other ingredients, being considered a version of Hamburg steak. Today, Salisbury steak is usually served with a gravy similar in texture to brown sauce,

It’s not even steak!

The fist TV diner was Swanson. Some kind of turkey. It costs us around one dollar.

I haven’t read it yet but i like his disclaimers, especially this one, it is a more useful real world test.
“These meals were, for the most part, prepared in the microwave. I know it’s generally agreed upon that preparing frozen meals in the oven yields better results. HOWEVER, given that the whole point of a frozen meal is ease and simplicity, I figured using a microwave would be more in line with the goals of this post.”

Try Marie Callendar's turkey and stuffing to share. Turkey chunks taste good, not processed, the stuffing, potatoes and gravy round it all out. Not perfect but they work.

DO NOT mistake this for the Marie Callendars turkey dinner. It's bad.

Yeah, back then chicken pot pie actually had a lot of chicken in it. The last chicken pot pie I had (a couple of decades ago) had very little chicken in it. That is, I think it was chicken. I wasn't sure.

Stouffer’s Stuffed Peppers

Stouffer’s Creamed Chipped Beef (with Brandt Zwieback since the more traditional Zweiback are gone from stores)

Trader Joe’s Cheese Tamales

****

But when I get up the energy I make Do It Yourself frozen dinners by cooking HUGE amounts and freezing almost all in serving size amounts. Currently in the freezer:

Pot Roast
Short Ribs
15 Bean Soup with Maple Ham
Quaker Oatmeal Meatloaf Hamburgers

Which side is the good ones?

I wondered that, as well. So, I read the description in the article.

The skin of the fried chicken was slimy, and the chicken itself was rubbery and VERY salty. The mashed potatoes and green beans weren't atrocious, but others were better. Sorry, Hungry-Man, but something has to go in last place.

That was #31.

Yup. Otherwise I like the chicken but the sauce can’t be too blue.

Why would anybody buy a frozen spaghetti and meat sauce? You can heat up sauce and boil noodles in less time than it takes to take rectangular lump from frozen to piping hot.

I find it funny that she complains about the portion size of the “Smart Ones”. Hon, that is diet food. You should expect a small portion. Pair it with a salad and it is fine.

And it’s much cheaper to DIY, too.
