The fist TV diner was Swanson. Some kind of turkey. It costs us around one dollar.
As kids we used to eat the original Swanson turkey dinners. They came with mashed potatoes and peas, plus stuffing, gravy, and dark and white turkey slices. I used to throw the dark meat away. Still don't eat it.
I never buy frozen dinners of any kind, but just recently, I was looking for something I could make quickly at home as my son was in the hospital, and I had limited time at home to take my meds and eat. Conagra makes Hungry-Man dinners. I bought two Hungry-Man Roasted White Meat Turkey Dinner. They were selling two for $6. I didn't want anything that big, but the store had no smaller offering in that brand. Swanson used to sell an entree-type product with just white meat on top of the stuffing with gravy, and mashed potatoes in a two-part aluminum container.
Conagra produces the Hungry-Man products. The food was horrible, very bland with no flavor whatsoever, despite putting salt and pepper on it. It was nothing like what I remember Swanson's dinners tasting like. I had to take all the corn out of the carrots and corn, because I can't eat corn due to diverticulitis. And I've never eaten any of the desserts they ever offered when they expanded the packaging. It was so disgusting that I threw the second package out in the garbage the next day.
