The Airbus A321XLR, which makes its maiden flight today, promises to give passengers more holiday options than ever before
The A321XLR is the newest model in the Airbus A320 family of planes At 12.35pm today, Captain Jose Del Valle, Iberia’s chief pilot, will push forward the throttle on flight IB347. The plane will race down the runway at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and fly for nine hours to Boston. Iberia has been flying from Madrid to Boston for years, so why will Del Valle tell customers they are “making history”?
The Boeing 747 veteran will be captaining the first long-haul passenger flight of the new Airbus A321XLR jet. It marks the start of a new era in air travel that will offer passengers new cabins, new routes and more choice of when and where to fly.
The A321XLR is a single-aisle jet – the newest model in the Airbus A320 family of planes that most of us will have boarded on short-haul British Airways and easyJet flights to and from European destinations. Such jets can usually only fly for a few hours but improved aerodynamics, larger fuel tanks and engines that burn less fuel per mile mean the XLR can fly for up to 11 hours and cover 4,700 miles. That puts cities like Delhi or Atlanta in range of any western European airport.

AVIATION PING!..............
Thanks, montag813
Unable to get to the article. Something about signing up to look at it.
I no nothing of aviation or planes or jets.
I wonder when that jet that made it to Europe in one hour will be very commercially available.
I wouldn’t need any xanax for the trip :)
the new 757
The “not Boeing” way to success.
Ask Elon. I hear he's working on a 'super plane' right now................
Paywall. NO thanks.
Much beterererer.
I found another article with the same pics. Interesting layout inside.
It’s an extended length and range A321 which was the playbook for the 737 MAX. All of the pretty pictures mean nothing since the airlines will implement the most packed seating arrangement possible. Pretty pictures aside this will probably be a miserable ride in coach for most airlines.
I lost his number :)
But boy would that be great.
Now, if they could only do something about the pilot shortage...
That’s what DEI is for...................🙄
Is that a B.C.-130?
The Airbus 320 series of aircraft, have been known for many years to have a particularly irritating high pitched whine. This is caused by air rushing across the under-surface of the wing, where there are Fuel Over Pressure Protector (FOPP) cavities. This generates noise, in the same way as blowing air over the mouth of a bottle. Every A320 series aircraft emits a signature howling noise while approaching to land. It is heard most when the plane is travelling at around 160 knots, and the frequency is around 500-600Hz, which is close to peak sensitivity of the human ear. It's astonishing that Airbus hasn't figured out how to make a port to dump excess fuel without that howling / screeching noise.Airlines can retrofit a vortex generator to solve the problem, but many do not do that (why spend money to stop aggravating people on the flight path?).
The vortex generator is a 5-cm triangular piece of aluminium sheet metal upstream of the two vents on each wing, that diverts the air flow and stops the whistle. A decade of research went into the vortex generator, which stems from efforts to mask a similar whistle produced when air blows over the gun ports of warplanes. The image below shows both the FOPP hole, and the VG that softens the sound:
Same here and I ain’t gonna do it.
I’m afraid that Airbus has replaced Boeing as the airliner of choice.
