An uber-woke, $65K-a-year New York City private school will allow “emotionally distressed” students to skip class the day after the election next week — in an eyebrow-raising move that drew ire from comedian Jerry Seinfeld, whose kids once attended the elite institution.
In an email titled “Election Day support,” Ethical Culture Fieldston School upper school principal Stacey Bobo vowed to “create space to provide students with the support they may need” in the wake of the White House race, the New York Times reported.
Students will not be assigned homework on Election Day and there will be no assessments on Wednesday, Bobo explained.
Kids will also be allowed excused absences on Wednesday, or whenever the election results are announced, if they feel unable to “fully engage in classes,” Bobo continued in her email, adding that psychologists would be available during the week to provide counseling.
The decision prompted eye-rolls from parents, including Seinfeld, 70, who told the Times that decisions like this are what forced him and his wife to transfer their own kids out of the out-of-touch prep school, nestled in the leafy and affluent Bronx suburb of Riverdale.
“This is why the kids hated it. What kind of lives have these people led that makes them think that this is the right way to handle young people?” the world-famous comedian scoffed.
“To encourage them to buckle. This is the lesson they are providing, for ungodly sums of money.”
Seinfeld’s two sons attended the elite school, however, his younger son was transferred to Riverdale Country School in the eighth grade, the Times reported.
The Ethical Culture Fieldston School, which positions itself as a bastion of cultural diversity, recently came under fire in the wake of Hamas’ sneak attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, with Jewish students and parents...

I see what you did there.... not that there is anything wrong with that.
um…I may take a day off myself…It’s what being a Blue State requires every once in awhile…
Create space to provide students with the support they may need...yada yada.
The American education system, private or otherwise, continues to groom liberal zealots.
Coddle the little snowflakes and their woke latte parents.
The hard left thinks President Trump is going to win.
Maybe our pearl clutchers need to spend some quality time with them.
Lol.
Those posts made me lol :)
It’s a STUPID reason to give kids time off.
Now if they heard their father’s letter from Cheevers read out loud...THAT is a reason to take a day off.
Seinfeld isn’t a conservative but he’s FAR from the leftist jerk Larry David and the other characters in the show are.
He’s been fed up with the PC crap for a couple of decades; comedians aren’t permitted to be funny anymore.
“$65K-a-year New York City private school”
For about the same price one could probably get a private tutor.
If the tutor teaches two kids, the price per kid would be about half.
It’s time to shut down the public schools.
Those privlidged children are not being taught how to deal with adversity and disappointment. Then again most of those kids will inherit enough money to maintain them in luxury for life. Nevertheless the principal announced the school will accept donations of well made pajamas.
Allentown PA school district cancelled classes and after school activities, when Pres Trump held his recent rally, there.
Snowflakes, indeed.
Agreed.
Having read a number of his comments about "woke" and the impact on comedy, I think he really is a free speech supporter and longs for the days when there wasn't singular thought.
“I’m distressed because you gave everybody else the day off. Can I leave too?”
I didn’t care for Nixon (at the time) and I never got a day off.
Isn’t that pos supporting kamalatoe?
With a tutor/nanny at 65,000 a year a kid ought to get really good at something. Tennis pro? Gold medalist skier? Learn Latin like John Locke and become a kickass whiz-kid? Comedian for life?
The idea is to clog the streets with roaming mobs of youths ala the BLM riots.
