Thousands of bottles of the antidepressant medication duloxetine have been recalled, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The medication, sold under the brand name Cymbalta, contains a potentially cancerous substance, N-nitroso-duloxetine.1
The recall affects 7,107 bottles of 500-count, 20 mg Duloxetine Delayed-Release Capsules produced by Towa Pharmaceutical Europe and distributed nationwide.
It was initiated on October 10 and has been given a Class II designation, which means that the use of or exposure to the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” according to the FDA.2
The recalled lot was 220128, with a 12/2024 expiration date.
Duloxetine is a medication used to treat depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, Jamie Alan, PhD, an associate professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Michigan State University, told Health.
It is in a class of medications called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, or SNRIs. The drug works by increasing the amounts of serotonin and norepinephrine, substances in the brain that help maintain mental balance and stop the movement of pain signals.3
If you take this medication, it's understandable to have questions about what the recall means for your health. Here’s what you need to know.

Yeah, that’s true for any antidepressant. They really mess with your system.
Slingshot effect................
That depresses me
It’s a tough decision.
I’m ont a special kinda one...Wellbutrin...it increases Dopamine, not serotonin.
15 years now, I think. Maybe more.
I had sustained a pretty bad head injury and my mind was going to dark places. A little too dark.
The Wellbutrin has worked really well.
But the trade is that I dont know what the heck it is doing to my body :)
I have very strong feelings about how easily antidepressants are handed out without real follow up. Doctors act like they are a panacea and will solve whatever the problem is, but the fact is, they don’t really help a problem, they mask it. People who take them go through very little therapy once they’re on them.
They’re also dangerous because missing even one dose can produce a very ill effect. Missing several is a real problem. Yet, the medical establishment hands them out like they’re candy and harmless.
My doc gave it to me for pain.
Took it for a while and it did not help, then I quit it and it made me feel crazy.
It may have stuck. 👻😜👻
Anyway, it made me very wary of what doctors just order up and what drives them to do so.
I recently quit taking the meds that I have taken for years for diabetes.
They only make your cells more insulin resistant over time.
It’s no good when they stop working so why take them?
I lost 15 lbs in a month and while my A1c is high it is more stable and I see it coming down....intermittent fasting and very low carb is improving things better than the meds that had quit working at all.
Clinical Depression requires therapy and some medications.
Doctors are playing Russian Roulette by just prescribing the meds, and hoping that the ‘problem’ will just go away...............
Just make sure you’re talking with a professional about what’s going on in your head. Get to the root of the problem if you can.
Yours may be a different case than most because of the head injury.
I’m just saying these drugs are not to be taken lightly. They do have an effect. If you decide to go off, please ease off of them gently and a little at a time.
My sister sometimes doesn’t take hers when it’s time to refill. She thinks she can put it off. It’s a nightmare after two days with her off of them. Hell. She doesn’t know what she’s like to everyone around her.
It’s that going off of them when they really do make you crazy. The patient and the people around them go through hell, especially if the patient has been on them for a while.
Yes, need both. Often the therapy part is forgotten.
Duloxetine is very effective for me. But forgetting even one dose sends my night brain to absolutely unbelievable heights of dreaming. I concoct complex tales that I couldn’t even conceive of in my waking state. Sometimes jokes, puns, and riveting story lines that deserve a book or movie. I swear it has even taken me to the future. (Yep, still Uber and swipe credit cards, and bars if you’re interested.) Driving back from DC after Jan 6th I had forgotten to bring it, so was 3 or 4 days without. I took a quick snooze in a parking lot with pleochroic, rainbow-like ribbons falling onto my truck like confetti, until a cop knocked on my window. Sometimes I miss a dose deliberately for the entertainment.
Yeah, I entrusted someone to hold onto my guns for a bit when I quit them.
Not kidding...coming off is no good, you are right on.
The doctor prescribed them for pain...that’s what he told me.
He did not even tell me they were an anti depressant.
User be aware.
These days I am very wary of doctors.
Recent events have solidified that wariness.
LOL
No thanks, been there done that.
I remember the dream thing too.
Just when the Democrats need them too.
MDs are doctors of medicine. They think they can prescribe a pill for anything these days. Those pills come with side effects.
I’m not saying they’re quacks, but they do seem to think that a pill will “fix” an issue. Drugs can be helpful to some, even many, but they come at a cost. Risk vs reward. I always keep that in mind.
IMHO, I’m far better off trying to eat right, sleep well, and get daily exercise. I try to pay close attention to what my body telling me. If I overwork, I need to hold back on some things until I get a little better. However, I can’t get too lazy. I try working out a different way.
Also, don’t forget about your spiritual health. That’s a part of us, too.
duloxetine.

I never take anything. The above is one reason why.
Just when [I PRAY] dems will need it the most.
