I meant to make notes on everything you guys suggested, but I can't find it.
I use the free BitDefender
I don’t know if this helps, but here’s a thread you posted previously:

Free or paid?
I use Avast free but a great thing today is that when you don’t have another antivirus running, Windows Defender always comes on automatically and it is pretty good by itself.
Malwarebytes free is also good for occasional scanning to get a second opinion from whatever antivirus you choose.
I have used AVAST for a long, long time
I even pay for it, I like it that much
Linux.
Malwarebytes is one I’ve used, and ExpressVPN.
avast worked pretty well but now insists that we pay to renew it and it keeps shooting popup advertisements up on the screen claiming that our free renewal is available but when you click on the ad it connects you to an all-paid option page.
We have received over 300 of these popup ads and they are very very annoying. We finally Uninstalled Avast BUT.. and here’s the catch....all 3 uninstall programs will not actually remove the incessant false advertisements.
We checked the internet and this is a known scam by Avast. There are a couple of people who’ve posted ways and means that they claim will finally stop the ads. But these techniques are so very complicated, you have to be a computer genius to try them. And probably you need a full weekend of time to do it.
We are pis*ed off at Avast and have to recommend you consider twice before using it.
We switched over to AVG. So far it seems to be working okay. It does pop up ads telling you that you need their paid version but at least they let you click each ad off okay. Annoying since these ads are almost daily interruptions in our computer lives, but okay we get it. HOPEFULLY AVG won’t permanently infest our computer system with ads like Avast did.
Hopefully!
I’ve had that issue with my Avast. I paid for the “Premium” edition, but keep getting pop-ups that want me to pay extra for “more” protection. I thought “Premium” was the total deal, guess not.
Some of those pop-ups won’t close when you click on the “X” in the upper right corner. When that happens right-click on the Avast icon in the task bar and select “Close Window” and it will go away.
So far, the advice has thoroughly confused me. Kaspersky was easy. The advice on Avast varied from it suddenly demanded payment to it to "it's wonderful". I have an Apple Mac, and don't see myself going to Linux. All the kind replies about Windows don't apply. So, is Avast a hidden minefield? Bitdefender? Something else?
Who has time for that? I don't want to have to mess with that.
very important: is it plugged in?
I’m afraid I don’t know.
I use a Linux system and the Brave browser.
oh my!
Avast is worse than we even imagined!!!
What abuse, it is worse than all the fake car repair insurance and solar cell sales pitches we get
and placing secret code into your computer that they will not remove is a total and complete abuse
da*n!
thanks for the info, we will avoid Avast for sure!
Avira does the same thing. It has pretty much taken over my computer but I simply live with it. I do not want to do a fresh install of Windows 7. It probably will not install anyway and give to me one of those monopoly-messages about, “You have to install Windows ( latest itteration, ) for this program to work.” The software companies have entered into a conspiracy to make people buy additional, unnecessary software. They can all go push it in way up where the Sun never shines!
Malwarebytes
Keep it simple.
AVG, Ivacy VPN, with Brave is pretty good knocking down everything. Even Youtube ads.
For browsing I will use a Thor server and browser with the same.
