Anyone suffer from gout that is not, shall I say, "chronic" but triggered from either alcohol or specific foods?
If so, do you take a supplement you find works well even when eating those foods?
Cherry supps? Curious to see if there is a consensus here.
Thanks!

Try vitamin B12.
It worked for my nerve pain for other issues.
“>>I take Allopurinol.
>>>Me, too. I haven’t had a gout attack since I started taking it 15 years ago.”
I could have written the same, right down to the number of years.
Allopurinol $4.08 using GoodRX.
And the price is cheap.
I’ve always heard that aspirin is great for gout.
My wife drinks 4 oz every morning. It cured her carpal tunnel syndrome, and no gout feeling in her feet. Been drink just that much for 20 years.
This worked for me too.
I was going to say beer but I guess that won’t work in your case.
GOUT can be controlled by diet. Dr. Axe has good articles and a diet to follow.

Vitamin C. I take 2500mg a day. I also have 500mg chewable tablets that I pop as needed when I get that tickle in my big toe from eating the wrong things. First attack in 2018. Had only one since about a year later.
“My friend who was plagued with it says he’s had no trouble since going keto.”
Likely true, but the Operatives here will not that disclosed.
Yes. I’ve had gout 2 or 3 times, seafood related. I looked up some info on the net, and was impressed with a recommendation for taking PROTEOLYTIC ENZYMES. I immediately ordered some (”Doctor’s Best”) from Swanson health foods in North Dakota. It arrived in a couple days. Took some right away and within 24 hrs the gout was gone. I have some in the cupboard right now, but haven’t needed it.
Some medications have warnings about consuming grapefruit juice. My understanding is that grapefruit juice and some medications compete for the same metabolic enzyme.
The result of taking both can be that both stay in the system longer and could have similar effects as taking an increased dose of the affected medication.
Propensity for gout attacks have a relationship to genetic mutations which control urate disposition in the body.
Other factors which increase chance of gout flare-ups include high body weight, diet high in purines, high frutose corn syrup is known to increase uric acid levels, lack of exercise.
Non pharmacogical remedies include tart cherry juice(not a slam dunk). Since there are many factors involved with gout flare-ups it is hard to test if cherry juice is always effective.
Best bet....lose as much weight without becoming ill..(too fast loss of weight can cause ketosis which can raise uric acid), keep well hydrated, exercise reasonably, avoid high purine foods(e.g. meat soups, meat broths, gravies, meat drippings, organ meats, liver, etc), meats...some vegetables are high in purines, but not as high as meat.
If none of those interventions work very well....suggest the use of pharmacological agents...and the above alterations to be able to minimize amount of drug needed. Work with your doctor or rheumatologist. Ya’ gotta remember if you are not excreting the uric acid well enough...it can be deposited in certain areas of the body. Called gout tophi(not tofu!)
I write this as one who suffers from gout. I had atypical presentation....took 13 years of suffering in others area of body...negative uric acid in joint fluid aspiration with no positive diagnosis till my big toe got inflamed. Couldn’t take allopurinol(caused ear ringing—rare side effect). Have to take probenecid(need to keep hydrated).
Best wishes to all who suffer from it...but ya’ gotta work on it.
Hereditary, but treated via diet. My late father got pretty ornery when he had to go on a diet for it. Now that I’ve made landfall in the land of Geriatrica I can see why he was ornery.
“Gout is a common inflammatory arthritis characterized by elevated plasmatic levels of uric acid.”

For general joint pain, various aches and pains, and also to help circulation, colloidal minerals. They have been made to taste MUCH better than I remember from when I used them 25 or so years ago and intermittently since then. After a capful daily for a few weeks I realized I didn’t make the “ugh” sound as I got out of bed. I find it in the local health food store, but I’ve also had it delivered when I don’t want to skate around busy city streets in the winter (I’m in The Boonies).

I use this ointment before bed when mine is really kicking up:

I used to drink a lot of beer and I would get terrible gout attacks. Allopurinol helped some. I quit drinking and have had very few attacks. That was 9 years ago and it’s been years since the last attack. Indomethacin works great to reduce the pain and swelling from an attack. I tried the cherry juice and all that stuff and it didn’t work. I really miss beer but I don’t miss gout one bit. Good luck.
