Anyone suffer from gout that is not, shall I say, "chronic" but triggered from either alcohol or specific foods?

If so, do you take a supplement you find works well even when eating those foods?

Cherry supps? Curious to see if there is a consensus here.

Thanks!

I had chronic gout since 1989. Doc couldn’t cure it. Eventually, Doc referred me to a Rheumatologis who stated I’m allergic to hot dogs.

WTF!!

Haven’t had a gout attack for the past three years

Processed meats are really bad. I had a “turkey hot dog” a few months back. (at a BBQ) Next day I was limping all over the place.

Google search.... processed turkey super bad for gout....

I had a nasty big toe flairup every 2-3 years or so for a decade or more. I told my Dr I could grin and bear it. He said that was a bad idea as the acid crystals that form slowly destroys the joint. Been on allopurinol for seven years and not a single problem since.

A friend of mine (age 61) gets it after eating shellfish, especially lobster. It looks like a broken ankle! Her mom had it too. The only thing that seems to help is drinking more water. She’s tried all the natural remedies and doesn’t trust prescription drugs. She’s vegetarian who makes an exception for seafood but has concluded most of it is more trouble than it’s worth, although fish don’t affect her at all.

“Lay off the red meat, any alcohol, and spices (esp habeneros)”

That’s not going to happen for most, lol!

If memory serves me correctly, Gout is caused by a build up of Uric acid. and you can buy anti-uric acid supplements on amazon.

The prescription drug that works best for me, having gout attacks since the 80’s, really bad, multiple ER visits, best treatment is Colchicine(3000 year old treatment for Pharoahs), a tiny pill with big benefits. Whenever I think Gout is raising its ugly head, I take two pills, and if it starts hurting after that 2, I take one more every hour or so until Gout goes away. Get a Rhuematologist, Gout is his gig. Gout will destroy your joints, I don’t have many undamaged joints left.

When you have an attack take Mitigare 5mm. Works great. It is not OTC.

As said, drink lots of water. I get a flair up in the summer when drinking beer working out in the heat. Beer sets it off to so I quit that and switched to whiskey and water. Seagrams Dark honey whiskey. Or I drink gin water and a splash of lemon juice.
