Elon Musk's Starship booster captured in world first ["Chopsticks"]

Elon Musk’s Starship rocket has completed a world first after part of it was captured on its return to the launch pad.

The SpaceX vehicle's lower half manoeuvred back beside its launch tower where it was caught in a giant pair of mechanical arms, as part of its first test flight.

It brings SpaceX’s ambition of developing a fully reusable and rapidly deployable rocket a big step closer.

"A day for the history books," engineers at SpaceX declared as the booster landed safely.

The chances of the bottom part of the rocket, known as the Super Heavy booster, being caught so cleanly on the first attempt seemed slim.

Prior to the launch, the SpaceX team said it would not be surprised if the booster was instead directed to land in the Gulf of Mexico.

gotta wonder if a harris administration would just TAKE spacex from Elon musk and claim it all as “government property”. she’s made it clear with other industries that she doesn’t have a problem with that.

The government can take property, but it can't replicate the expertise and organizational genius required to keep it functioning.

Our government is evil, and evil cannot create. It can only destroy.

From an engineer viewpoint, I wasn’t sure he would ever get this to work.
Now I believe NASA is 40 years behind SpaceX and they might as well give their operations to SpaceX

Concur, I would venture to say that a healthy percentage of employees would bail if the government nationalized SpaceX.
Elon Musk is an amazing guy, he has moved past Henry Ford to the next level, he is a once in a couple of century kind of guy, enjoy the ride.

The elites have yet to come to realize the geopolitical implications of SpaceX’s accomplishments. Once Musk has successfully moved SpaceX’s CA operations to TX, TX and FL if they decide to secede together from the Union, will if they wish, control the ultimate high ground, space.

Well nasa doesnt really build anything. Its all contracted out. This process is inherently longer than Spacex building what they need/want.

Nasa is pretty much dead in the water. The model they are working under doesn’t work.

And yet despite Space X innovations, California rejected Musk’s requests to add more rocket launches, with one of the reasons for the denial being Musk’s social media posts.

“ The elites have yet to come to realize the geopolitical implications of SpaceX’s accomplishments”

The world may not have fully absorbed the military implications of a spacecraft able to deliver tons to orbit on demand and on short notice.

Has anybody addressed and/or resolved the observed booster fire observed just seconds before the grab? Held my breath on that one, considering previous Starship landing incidents of postlanding “rapid mechanical disassemblies”.

SpaceX didn’t just cross the goal line - they lined up in the end zone, did the Cha Cha Slide, and then spiked the ball.

That was SpaceX making fun of their global competition. It was glorious.

I must admit, that was a pretty amazing feat. Good job Elon & Space X rocket scientists. You have just surpassed NASA, because they have become woke & infested with DEI hires. 🙂👍

Harris is in charge of NASA and she gets us Starliner.

Trump has Musk who gets us Starship.

Any questions ?
