What Trump and Vance Want From Hurricane Helene
The New York Times ^ | Oct. 8, 2024 | Jamelle Bouie, Opinion Columnist

Posted on 10/08/2024 10:57:04 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

Donald Trump and JD Vance are lying about the federal government’s response to Hurricane Helene.

“Kamala spent all her FEMA money, billions of dollars, on housing for illegal migrants,” Trump said at a rally in Michigan last week, telling his audience that the agency responsible for disaster response had abandoned victims of the hurricane.

“They promised $750 to American citizens who have lost everything,” Vance said at a rally in Butler, Pa., over the weekend, suggesting that the government had given only a pittance to those affected by the hurricane. In truth, the $750 was an upfront payment to help cover the cost of food, water, medicine and other emergency supplies. Victims are still eligible for additional payments totaling thousands of dollars to repair damage to their homes and other personal property.

It would be easy to dismiss these lies as mere MAGA theater, but they are far more destructive than that.

First and foremost, the lying degrades the ability of the federal government to respond to the disaster. Clear lines of communication are paramount during a crisis like the one facing western North Carolina. When Trump and Vance lie about the extent of the federal response, they disrupt the flow of information with noise and interference. What’s more, to the extent that ordinary Americans take Trump and his running mate at their word, their lies may keep actual victims of the hurricane from claiming the benefits they’re entitled to. Compare this performance with that of Chris Christie, the Republican governor of New Jersey in 2012, who worked with President Barack Obama to deliver as much assistance as possible to people affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Christie, it should be said, is all but estranged from the Republican Party these days.

Couldn’t read behind the paywall, but from the excerpt, she appears to make the accusation of lying while providing zero facts to dispute them.

Why even post this bilge?

Rush Limbaugh spent most of his shows discussing articles from NYT, WaPo, LAT, etc. If you don’t like them, don’t click on them. You are not the center of the universe and lots of people are interested in what the enemy is up to, judging from the number of comments the articles get

Some enterprising journalist should take some video of brave FEMA workers rescuing people, setting up soup kitchens, and basically saving the day.

Or, they could just tell lies about Trump.

A little birdie told me what the rest of the article said (thanks little birdie!), and the article contains precisely ZERO facts supporting the assertion that these are lies. None. It is an article of baseless accusations and nothing more.

Journalism is dead when they allow such hollow opinion pieces to go to print. But we already knew that.

At this point after 2 or more assassination attempts we all know what the enemy is up to without having to post or read this bilge!

PS, please don’t use the Maharaji Rush name in vain;-)

Remember what they did to President Bush over his handling of Katrina? Bush was very good in his handling of that crisis but media lies said otherwise.

This time nothing but crickets for a half-ass negligent response from President Biden. The difference is that most of the North Carolina victims are White, while the Katrina victims had African roots. There was nothing a White president could do to assuage Katrina's dark angry natives.

This time, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers should have been called out to quickly open up the washed out roads and bridges with expedient temporary fixes.

But I'm afraid they are not capable of even building a temporary dock for the Arabs in Palestine. But if you need a lesbian on site, they sure as heck got 'em!

So the fact that you aren’t interested supersedes the fact that lots of other people are interested in the articles?

What Trump and Vance Want From Hurricane Helene

For the Federal, State and Local governments to either do their jobs, which everyone involved has paid for them to do, or for them to get the hell out of the way so the citizens can do it for them?

The NYTimes is the Deep State’s house organ. Their charge is to speak for and protect the Deep State at all costs. There is no doubt in my mind that this story was directly driven via the CIA/Deep State.

“…the article contains precisely ZERO facts supporting the assertion that these are lies. None. It is an article of baseless accusations and nothing more.”

“Journalism” as practiced by the distaff side is typically as described by Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson): “ I think of a man and take away reason & accountability.”
