Donald Trump has no plans to visit Springfield, Ohio, despite pledging to do so at a rally last week, Newsweek can reveal.
The city was unwittingly thrust into the national spotlight this month after the former president and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, amplified claims that its Haitian migrant community were killing and eating residents' pets.
At a rally in Long Island on September 18, Trump said that he planned to visit Springfield in the next two weeks.
However, two sources familiar with the matter have said Trump is not expected to visit the city in the near future.
It comes as Ohio's Republican Governor Mike DeWine warned that a visit from Trump would "strain" relations with the local community and slammed the former president for what he called "hurtful" rhetoric.
Springfield became a focal point in the immigration debate after unproven rumors began spreading on social media that Haitian migrants were stealing and eating pets.
One post online claimed a woman had eaten a cat outside a home in Springfield—a city that has seen a sharp increase in migrants over the past two years. Many of those migrants have come from Haiti and are in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) that allows them to live and work without fear of deportation.
The pet-eating rumors gained further attention when Trump brought them up during the presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.
"In Springfield, they're eating the dogs, the people that came in. They're eating the cats ... They're eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what's happening in our country, and it's a shame," Trump said.

He’s letting the media beat him. They are sticking to their guns about how they’ve ‘debunked’ the cat eating thing. In about a year, after it doesn’t matter anymore regarding voting, the NYT will run an article stating how it turns out, the cat eating stuff was true, but we couldn’t verify it at the time.

He hasn’t figured out how to beat the power of the MSM yet. It’s the truth. There are still tens of millions of people in this country that believe every single thing the MSM says, even if it contradicts what they just said the day before.
Today, the media’s narrative is that they’ve debunked Haitians eating cats. All they have to do is say they’ve debunked it, or ‘it’s been debunked’, and that is good enough for maybe 100 million Americans, because smart looking talking head said so on the TV Box.

I was hoping to see him bring out the truth about Springfield. But perhaps it’s best since the election is so close that he sticks to winning topics that most people want to hear about like the economy.

No serious person watches “the MSM” for political news or commentary ...they are all Dem or GOP-E propaganda ops. You might try monitoring social media to expand your political horizons and acumen.+
Trump has his flaws; but, he knows how to win and has proven that time and time again.
Considering that it’s all leftists and liberals denying it, I don’t believe it’s been debunked in the least.
Just like drops in crime because nobody is taking reports, arresting anyone, or prosecuting the crimes, the *rumors* are not *credible* because they have not been investigated, or if they’re known to be true, they’re being hushed up, which is SOP for the DS.
